Luton Town and Oxford United were separated by two divisions last season and the Hatters have retained enough quality in their squad to make life difficult for Oxford, who have done all their best work in their new division in home matches.

The Hatters had won back-to-back games before losing 3-1 at Plymouth on Saturday, but they can be fancied to get back on track on Tuesday evening.

Team news

Luton will be checking on the fitness of several players after Teden Mengi and Tahith Chong both went off due to injuries in the loss at Plymouth and then Mads Andersen, who had replaced Mengi, was forced off himself.

Publicidad

Daiki Hashioka and Shandon Baptiste are still sidelined, but Jacob Brown returned from a long-term injury as a substitute on Saturday and Victor Moses could be in line to start after scoring against the Pilgrims.

Oxford are still missing some notable players, with Cameron Brannagan, Matt Phillips, Joe Bennett and Will Goodwin all unavailable.

Josh McEachran may be able to return after making the bench against Burnley.

The stats

Luton have scored in all three of their home games this season, but the Hatters have not scored more than twice in any of their eight matches in all competitions’

Both teams have scored in four of Luton's last five games.

Publicidad

Oxford have lost all four of their away league and cup matches, but they scored in three of them.

Luton won both league meetings when the teams last played each other during the 2018-19 season.

Prediction

Luton won only one Premier League game from February onwards last season and it has taken them a while to shake off the losing habit since their relegation.

Even so, being elevated to such lofty company saw them strengthen their squad and that could start to tell now they are finding their feet in the Championship.

Moses is certainly a quality performer at this level and the former Chelsea and Liverpool striker notched his first goal for the club against Plymouth on Saturday after spending the last three seasons with Spartak Moscow.

The U's have made a faster start than might have been expected after finishing fifth in League One last season and winning promotion via the play-offs, but their first 10 Championship points have all been earned at home and Luton can be fancied to condemn them to a fourth away defeat of the season.

United have managed a goal in all three of their away league losses so far and a 2-1 win for the home side looks a realistic prospect.
