Hibernian struck twice in stoppage time to secure a 3-1 victory at Dundee United.

The hosts had opened the scoring early on through Ross Graham before Mykola Kuharevich equalised for the visitors.

United then had a Sam Dalby goal chalked off following a lengthy VAR check.

However, Hibs sub Kieron Bowie struck in the 90th minute, with another replacement Junior Hoilett putting the icing on the cake deep in stoppage time.

The win moved the capital club up to fourth in the Premiership table, leapfrogging the hosts, and extended their unbeaten run to 12 league games.

The hosts made one change to the team that beat Motherwell on Saturday, with Luca Stephenson replacing Ross Docherty who had to hobble off against the Steelmen. Craig Sibbald was on the bench after battling back from groin surgery in October.

Hibs also made one alteration to the side that beat Celtic at the weekend with Kuharevich coming in for Bowie.

United stormed into an early lead in just the sixth minute when a Rocky Bushiri clearing header only found Graham, who controlled the ball on his chest before hitting a volley into the back of the Hibs net with the help of a deflection off Jack Iredale.

Kuharevich had a quickfire chance to respond but his header was straight at home keeper Jack Walton who easily gathered.

However, Kuharevich would not be denied in the 18th minute when Nicky Cadden swung a corner in from the right to the striker at the back post and he gave Walton no chance with a clinical downward header.

United finally created a big chance in the 42nd minute when Ryan Strain sent a tempting cross into the Hibs box but Dalby’s near-post header flew wide.

Walton was called into action once more at the start of the second half, having to look lively to tip over a Martin Boyle cross.

The Terrors thought they had taken the lead in the 62nd minute when Strain sent an inch-perfect free-kick in from the right to the back post with Dalby sending a thumping header past Hibs keeper Jordan Smith. However, the goal was chalked off for handball following a lengthy VAR check.

Despite that setback, United continued to look the likelier to score with Hibs struggling to pose a threat in attack.

However, that all changed in the 90th minute when Nectarios Triantis played in sub Bowie and he made no mistake with a strike high past Walton.

Deep in stoppage time, Hibs added another to seal the win with Hoilett racing through on goal and firing into the back of the net. The goal was initially chalked off for offside but was given following another VAR check.
