England to wear special shirt

England will wear a unique pre-match shirt ahead of their friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park tomorrow night.

The Scottish FA are celebrating their 150th anniversary by replaying international football's oldest fixture, which will be held for the 116th time.

And the Three Lions will nod to their own history by donning a jersey featuring the original crest worn in the two nations' first meeting in 1872.

Captain Harry Kane modelled the replica shirt for the first time during a visit to Hamilton Crescent — the scene of that clash — alongside Tartan Army skipper Andy Robertson.

The hosts will come into the game in high spirits after extending their perfect record in Euro 2024 qualifying with a 3-0 win over Cyprus on Friday, with England drawing 1-1 with Ukraine a day later.

Clarke coy on duo

Elliot Anderson withdrew from the Scotland squad last week

Scotland manager Steve Clarke confirmed his continued interest in capping Elliot Anderson and has not ruled out a similar move for Harvey Barnes.

Anderson spent two days with Scotland last week before withdrawing from the squad and England manager Gareth Southgate has since expressed admiration for the Newcastle midfielder.

Magpies team-mate Barnes is also believed to be of interest, with the winger eligible to represent the Tartan Army due to his solitary England cap coming in a friendly.

Clarke said: "We like the player as well so Elliot will still have that choice to make.

"When I come out of this camp I will look at what we have done, what we have had, what's occurred over this camp, we will do a debrief on it and then we will shape what we do from there.

"We want the best players we can possibly get. If they are eligible for Scotland and they have a chance to play for us and they can improve the squad that I’ve got — which is not an easy thing to do."

Rice to meet you

Declan Rice has made an impressive start at Mikel Arteta's Arsenal

Declan Rice has revealed how Mikel Arteta welcomed him to Arsenal — by making him feel like Will from The Inbetweeners on his first day.

England midfielder Rice, 24, was the Gunners' marquee £105million signing this summer but boss Arteta must have still felt the former West Ham captain needed introducing properly at Hale End.

Rice explained on the Tubes & Ange Golf Life YouTube channel: "My first time I was there, on the Sunday, the lads weren't in and I came out of the physio room and Arteta has little things he does.

"He put a sticker on me saying 'hello, I'm the new person!'. He walked in and he just put it on my chest.

"I've got to wear it as the gaffer has put it on me! The Under-18s and Under-21s are up in the canteen and I'm like Will off The Inbetweeners, I'm the new boy, I'm walking through like that!"

The imposing 29-year-old joined the Saints from Genk in the January transfer window, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal.

He went on to make 11 Premier League appearances, failing to score as the South Coast club were relegated.

The towering frontman had featured only once in the Carabao Cup under new boss Russell Martin this term and has now sealed a temporary departure.

Firing Blancs

Laurent Blanc has been sacked as manager of Lyon.

The former France and Paris Saint-Germain boss leaves with the club bottom of Ligue 1 after collecting just a single point from their first four games.

A statement said: "Lyon would like to thank Laurent Blanc and his staff for their involvement and professionalism during these 11 months spent at the head of the professional team."

Ex-Napoli and Valencia coach Genaro Gattuso has been named as an early contender to replace Blanc.

I'm just Kenny

Stephen Kenny is under intense pressure after last night's defeat to the Netherlands

Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny insists he is not thinking about the mounting pressure on his job despite a damaging 2-1 defeat by the Netherlands leaving their Euro 2024 hopes hanging by a thread.

The loss in Dublin means a top-two finish in Group B is all but out of reach for the Boys in Green ahead of games against Greece and Gibraltar next month.

The 51-year-old said: "Listen, from my point of view, I'm not thinking about that now. I'm just very disappointed that we can't finish in the top two in the group.

"I'm just very, very disappointed with that and it's gut-wrenching that we can't.

"They have a lot of world-class players but it's still one that when you take the lead like we did, you are capable of winning. But we didn't defend well enough overall to do that."

Adam Idah gave the Irish a shock early lead before strikes from Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst consigned the hosts to a damaging defeat.
