Final World Cup

Brazil legend Marta has confirmed this summer's Women's World Cup will be her last.

The goal machine, 37, is preparing to appear at her sixth tournament on the global stage when this summer's showpiece takes place in Australia and New Zealand.

She has won the Copa America three times but has yet to lift the World Cup — something the Orlando Pride star is keen to change.

Marta, Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 117 goals, said: "It will be my last World Cup. We have to understand that a time comes for us to prioritise other things.

"I just have to be thankful to have lived all those years in the national team. To have the opportunity to go to another World Cup, a sixth one, for me is something surreal."

No8 for Loftus-Cheek

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will wear the No8 shirt vacated by Sandro Tonali at AC Milan.

The England midfielder left Chelsea for the San Siro last week, while Tonali departed the Rossoneri for Newcastle yesterday.

And Loftus-Cheek is clearly relishing the opportunity to show the Milan faithful what he is capable of after reuniting with former Blues team-mates Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori at his new club.

Ramsey Vill return home

Jacob Ramsey will miss England's European Under-21 Championship semi-final clash with Israel tomorrow night.

The Aston Villa star is set to return home after being forced off by an ankle knock as the Young Lions beat Portugal 1-0 in the quarters.

Ramsey, 22, had been in fine form as Lee Carsley's men won all three of their group games, picking up a goal and an assist.

He will undergo further assessment upon returning to England as his international team-mates continue their quest for glory at the tournament in Georgia and Romania.

Farewell from Geoff

Veteran reporter Geoff Shreeves has announced he is leaving Sky Sports.

Shreeves has been an ever-present part of Sky's football coverage since joining the broadcaster in 1992.

But writing on Instagram, he said: "There's an old saying that you always have to know the best time to leave even the greatest party.

"And that's what my 32 years at Sky have been — the most fantastic party I could ever imagined attending.

"From the first kick of a ball in the live coverage of the Premier League to Manchester City's title celebrations last season, with plenty in between.

"I have been fortunate to work for a ground-breaking company who have helped revolutionise football. But the time is right to move on.

"Sky have been incredibly generous in recognition of my service and I can't speak more highly of so many people I've worked with there over three decades.

"I now have the opportunity for new experiences, which I'm looking forward to announcing in the very near future."

Moving on

Goalie Emily Ramsey has parted company with Women's Super League runners-up Manchester United.

The England youth international, 22, made a total of six appearances in all competitions for United after making her debut in the 3-0 Women's FA Cup win over London Bees in February 2019.

Having spent last season on loan at fellow WSL side Everton, the academy graduate leaves as a free agent at the end of her contract.
