Fighting talk

Mauricio Pochettino insisted his side are not the Chelsea of old after last night's FA Cup triumph at Aston Villa.

The Blues left Villa Park with a 3-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Conor Gallagher, Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez, to book a home tie with Leeds in the fifth round.

It was a welcome result for Pochettino with his team languishing 11th in the Premier League — but he was quick to make it clear the current crop of players cannot be compared to the dominant sides of the Roman Abramovich era.

The Argentine, 51, said: "We need to stop this thing that we are Chelsea from 20 years ago. We are not this type of Chelsea. We need to move on and we need to create this project.

"I don't care if people are happy or not happy with my speech. I care for the club, I care for my players, I want to help the players.

"We are going to fight, I don't care what the people say.

"I'm not more sad or happy today after a win because we have experience — this type of project needs time and trust."

Red Roses

Manchester United and adidas have unveiled a clothing line in collaboration with famous indie band The Stone Roses.

The musicians are synonymous with the Red Devils, who have used This Is the One as their walkout track at Old Trafford since the early 2000s.

As well as a lifestyle collection featuring tracksuits and shorts, a pre-match jersey and reversible anthem jacket have been created — and fans will get a first glimpse of the gear before United's Premier League match at Aston Villa on Sunday.

Inigo Turner, design director at adidas, said: "For many fans that remember watching the famous class of 92, The Stone Roses music is probably the soundtrack playing in their heads.

"Both the team and the band represented global youth movements that had Manchester at their heart.

"We're excited to celebrate that relationship through this collection, which represents the beautiful fusion of Northern England football and musical culture."

The collection is available to purchase in official adidas stores and online.

WSL stars Maya Le Tissier, Geyse and Melvine Malard will also debut the collection at Southampton on Sunday

FA vote

The Football Association voted against UEFA's plan to allow president Aleksander Ceferin the option of standing for a fourth term in 2027.

The Slovenian chief was first appointed to his current role in September 2016 before being re-elected in 2019 and 2023.

Because Ceferin, 56, only served a partial first term, UEFA have made amendments to the election process and the motion passed at the latest conference in Paris with 49 of the 55 associations showing support.

FA CEO Mark Bullingham reportedly backs most of the amendments proposed by UEFA, including an increase in female representation within the governing body, but had to vote against all the changes as one package.

Ceferin then confirmed he will not run again in 2027 despite the change to the term limit, claiming he made the decision six months ago.

Milan's new kit

Puma have released AC Milan's fourth kits for 2023-24 in collaboration with Los Angeles streetwear designer Pleasures.

The separate black and white jerseys combine the musical influences of the LA-based brand with Milan's gothic architecture — and the black version is set to be debuted in Sunday's Serie A match against champions Napoli at San Siro.

Rossoneri striker Olivier Giroud, 37, said: "I am excited to be wearing this great looking kit on the pitch.

"It is unlike anything I have seen before with two versions that can be used by both the goalkeeper and the players.

"This shows the creativity and innovation of Puma, AC Milan, and Pleasures, creating a kit with a cutting-edge design."

The kits are available to purchase in official Puma stores and online.

AC Milan women will wear the new fourth kit in their derby match against Inter on February 17

Celtic's heart

Brendan Rodgers praised the "heart and soul" of his Celtic players following their last-minute victory at Hibernian.

January signing Adam Idah scored a stoppage-time penalty to secure a priceless 2-1 victory at Easter Road after the striker's first spot-kick was cancelled out by Dylan Levitt's second-half equaliser.

The win moved Celtic back to the top of the Scottish Premiership and three points ahead of rivals Rangers, although the Gers have a game in hand.

Rodgers, 51, said: "I said to them before the game that we need to play with heart and soul.

"The players showed immense heart to play through to the very end and get the victory.

"We will play better. We have to play better. It's not the level I want to see.

"But we will go away and analyse it and look to be better in our next game."

Trophy hunt

Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham last summer

Harry Kane has reiterated his desire to win trophies at Bayern Munich ahead of Saturday's top-of-the-table clash at Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Unbeaten Leverkusen are two points ahead of the champions but will come up against Europe's deadliest striker in Kane.

The England captain, 30, has scored 24 goals in 20 league appearances and is desperate for silverware to complement his superb individual form.

Kane told BBC Sport: "I've made it clear that I want to be winning team trophies and that's one of the things missing from my career so far.

"But as always I'm not going to panic. I'm going to keep my head down, keep doing my best for the team and hopefully that starts with a good win on Saturday."

Arsenal focus

Jorginho was a standout performer in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Liverpool at the Emirates

Jorginho has called on his Arsenal team-mates to retain their focus ahead of a tricky trip to West Ham on Sunday.

The Gunners are firmly back in the Premier League title race after a 3-1 win over Liverpool last weekend but a slip up at the London Stadium could be punished by the Reds or champions Manchester City.

Jorginho told Arsenal's official website: "Everyone is happy but now is the moment to stay focused and push even more, to go with the good momentum and try to win another game.

"It will be a really tough game. They play well there and it's a hard place to go and win. They showed already that it's really hard, we've been there, and now it's the moment for us to change things around in our way.

"I think we need to focus, as I always said, game by game. The Liverpool game is gone now and we need to focus on West Ham and the next one after that and the next one after that.

"If we want to stay in the race, we need to focus on each game and give everything we can in every single game."
