Dayot's dismissal

Thomas Tuchel was not happy with Dayot Upamecano's decision making as the French centre-back's mistake paved the way for Bayern Munich's 1-0 defeat to Lazio.

Upamecano, 25, was shown a straight red card after giving away a penalty for a reckless lunge on Gustav Isaksen.

Ciro Immobile converted the resulting spot kick to give the Serie A outfit a slender advantage in the Champions League last-16 tie.

Tuchel bemoaned his side's lacklustre display at full-time and questioned why his defender simply did not block Isaksen's attempt on goal.

The Bayern boss said: "We're frustrated and angry about the defeat.

"'I think we lost the game, I'm not sure Lazio won it.

"We did everything we could to fall behind, making errors and losing confidence. [There was] no need for Upamecano to go in like that.

"It's not wild or intentional — but just block the shot."

Kyler instinct

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe was in a confident mood after his side's 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the Champions League.

The Ligue 1 champions will head to the Reale Arena with a 2-0 lead in three weeks' time thanks to a goal from the striker and a brilliant strike by Bradley Barcola.

Mbappe knows his side are in a good position to reach the quarter-finals as Sociedad will have to open up in the second leg.

The France captain, 25, told Canal Plus: "We managed to score at key moments in the game. We have a good lead.

"The clean sheet is important for us, we've been looking for that in the Champions League, although it's true that they [Real] have not not been scoring much at the moment.

"It's evident that we had trouble getting out of their pressing game in the first half. We should have shown more character to get out of it, as we were eight [players] against six.

"The return leg will be more open, they will attack more and we will be given more space. I think we will score over there."

Drama on Horizon

Neil Warnock was appointed Aberdeen boss at the start of February

Aberdeen manager Neil Warnock likened VAR to the Horizon computer system at the centre of the Post Office scandal after his side's 3-3 draw with Motherwell.

The Dons came from 3-0 behind to earn a point at Pittodrie, although they could have claimed all three points had Bojan Miovski's late strike not been controversially ruled out for offside.

Miovski looked level with the Motherwell back-line but VAR deemed the 24-year-old to be ahead of play, much to the annoyance of Warnock.

The Aberdeen boss, 75, said: "VAR, I don't believe it, me. He said VAR is a computer. I think it's the Horizon computer.

"You can't tell me that's offside. I've seen the lines. I don't believe it's offside. I don't know how they do it."

One of the greats

Kevin De Bruyne joined Manchester City in August 2015

Frank Lampard has hailed Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne as one of the Premier League's finest ever players.

The Belgian maestro, 32, has been at the peak of his powers since returning from a serious hamstring injury — registering a goal and an assist in the Citizens' 3-1 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Lampard has been very impressed by his ex-Chelsea team-mate's development at City ahead of the Blues' visit to the Etihad on Saturday.

He said: "His understanding of the game, the goals he scores, his work ethic for the team, those have developed since I played with him obviously.

"We have all seen him become one of the greatest midfield players in the Premier League era, for sure.

"I'm really pleased for him because I really liked him as a lad and I understood his frustrations at Chelsea.

"He's obviously put in a lot of work, the hard yards to get to where he's got to but then his talent is immense as well."

Jose fires back

Jose Mourinho was appointed Roma manager in May 2021

Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at Roma's owners after he was sacked by the Italian club last month.

The Portuguese manager, 61, was relieved of his duties following a 3-1 loss at AC Milan, with Daniele De Rossi appointed as his replacement.

Mourinho won the Europa Conference League during his two-and-a-half years in charge of the Giallorossi — and he is not happy with how his dismissal was handled.

He told Football.com: "The European competitions are about to begin, in particular the Champions League, perhaps the most important competition on the world calendar.

"I won't be there at these final stages, not because I've already been eliminated, but because I was 'eliminated' by someone who knows little about football.

"That's life, full of ups and downs, and I'm growing, despite the unexpected and unfair dismissal.

"But I will return, with even more enthusiasm and confidence, for these UEFA matches."

Emma wants calm

Emma Hayes will leave Chelsea at the end of the season to take the USA job

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has urged her side to keep their emotions in check when they lock horns with in-form Manchester City tomorrow evening.

The Blues go into the Women's Super League clash top of the table, although a win for City at Kingsmeadow would see them move level on points with the champions.

Hayes said: "I think when you play so much top opposition throughout the year you have to regulate your emotions, to be honest with you.

"When you are having to deal with so much adrenaline — rushes and crashes — and so much game accumulation, you just have to get yourself prepared in the best way possible.

"For some that might be hyping it up, for others is the opposite — I think what I've learned over the years is not to change between games because you shouldn't place more importance on one fixture over another."
