Lee Bowyer vs Kieron Dyer (April 2005)

Surely the most famous of its kind, Newcastle pair Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer were both handed red cards after trading blows during a defeat to Aston Villa at St James' Park in 2005.

The Magpies were already a man down and trailing 3-0 at the time, so the bizarre scrap did the Toon no favours as they finished the game with eight players.

Both were handed bans by the FA though it was Dyer who got off the more lightly of the two, with the winger suspended for three games compared to instigator Bowyer's whopping seven.

Hugo Lloris vs Heung-Min Son (July 2020)

Project Restart during the COVID-19 pandemic was a strange watch at times but it did throw up some entertaining moments such as Hugo Lloris' furious tiff with Heung-Min Son.

The Tottenham goalkeeper took exception to the South Korean's lack of tracking back in a game against Everton and was sure to let him know as they made their way into the tunnel at half-time.

Spurs' duo quickly patched things up during the interval, with a more collected Lloris after the game passing off the exchange as something that is "part of football".

Anwar El Ghazi vs Tyrone Mings (September 2019)

Perhaps a common theme in this list, an attacking player shirking his responsibilities was what led Anwar El Ghazi and Tyrone Mings to come to blows earlier that same season.

Promoted Aston Villa knew survival was already going to be a tough job that campaign without two key players turning on each on each other like they did against West Ham at Villa Park.

El Ghazi was angered by his centre-back barking orders at him ahead of a corner, with the Dutch winger appearing to try and headbutt his team-mate as the two came together.

Bruce Grobbelaar vs Steve McManaman (September 1993)

Fans love to see players showing passion on derby day — but a scrap between two team-mates was probably not what Liverpool had in mind against fierce rivals Everton in 1993.

After a poor clearance by Steve McManaman allowed the Toffees to score, goalkeeper Bruce Grobelaar was left seething with his colleague.

In one of the angriest exchanges in this list, the Zimbabwean stopper screamed in and then pushed McManaman's face, with the midfielder returning the compliment before storming off.

Nathan Dyer vs Jonathan De Guzman (February 2013)

Swansea were so dominant in their 5-0 League Cup final victory over Bradford in 2013 that the players began arguing over who would get to score next.

Nathan Dyer was on a hat-trick against the League Two side when they were awarded a penalty in the 59th minute, so naturally thought he had the chance to complete a Wembley treble.

But designated taker Jonathan de Guzman wanted his cup-final goal, with the Dutchman refusing to hand the ball to his team-mate despite some angry protests from Dyer.

After burying the spot-kick, Dyer reluctantly joined the celebrations but his hat-trick goal never came despite the Swans' emphatic win.
