The final round of Premier League fixtures until Boxing Day did not disappoint as 29 goals were scored across 10 matches.

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table with a win at Wolves and an Ivan Toney brace saw Brentford inflict Manchester City's second league defeat of the season.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth breezed past Everton with Marcus Tavernier shining once again and Newcastle cemented their position in the top four with a 1-0 win over Chelsea.

With the season now on pause while the World Cup takes place, we take a look at Gameweek 16's best and worst fantasy performers.

Gameweek 16 top performers

Rodrigo Bentancur (Tottenham)

Tottenham have fallen behind in all of their last eight matches and it took a monumental effort from midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur to salvage three points against Leeds on Saturday.

The Uruguay international scored a brace in the final 10 minutes with his side trailing 3-2 and as a result, picked up a 14-point haul.

With plenty of managers keen to plan ahead to the next round of fixtures in December, it is worth noting that the midfield maestro picked up a booking that will see him suspended against Brentford on Boxing Day.

Ivan Toney (Brentford)

Ivan Toney sent a strong message to England boss Gareth Southgate after being left out of the Three Lions' World Cup squad by scoring twice in a win at Manchester City.

His 13-point return is his second-highest fantasy score and he was unlucky not to grab a hat-trick at the Etihad.

The striker will be hoping to come back firing in December when the Bees host Spurs.

Danny Ward (Leicester)

Once again goalkeeper Danny Ward silenced his critics with a spectacular performance in Leicester's 2-0 win at West Ham.

The Foxes stopper recorded his season-best tally of 11 points and will now jet off to the World Cup with Wales, who will go toe to toe with some of the world's biggest talents in Qatar.

When he returns, Ward will have a tough test against Newcastle in his next league outing but with Brendan Rodgers' men seeing a recent upturn in form, he may be worth keeping for Gameweek 17.

Gameweek 16 worst performers

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Erling Haaland scored less than two points for only the second time this season as City fell to a shock home defeat.

The Norwegian superstar is in the form of his life but could not make an impact against a resilient defence on what was a rare off day for the player.

City will look to bite back at Leeds in GW17 and with Haaland travelling for some warm-weather training during the break in the interim, he is a sure bet to score some high points in the Citizens' festive fixtures.

Leandro Trossard (Brighton)

Having enjoyed a period of spectacular form for Brighton, Leandro Trossard was subdued as his side lost at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Belgian had scored five points or more in the last three gameweeks, but was limited to just a two-point return in GW16.

Trossard will be focusing on his national team's aspirations at the World Cup but when he does return he will have the perfect opportunity to score some high points when the Seagulls visit Southampton.

Youri Tielemans (Leicester)

Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans has proved that he can score incredible goals on a regular basis, but he does seem to struggle from the penalty spot. 

His miss from 12 yards did not impact the overall result for his side, but he did score -1 points which will be tough reading for the 1.7% of players who selected the Belgian.

The East Midlanders' clash against the Magpies on Boxing Day will be a tough test for Tielemans in GW17, but his team's new-found confidence could make the difference against the high-flying Toon.
