Sean Dyche called for consistency after Dominic Calvert-Lewin's controversial red card marred Everton and Crystal Palace's goalless draw in the FA Cup.

Toffees striker Calvert-Lewin was sent off in the 79th minute at Selhurst Park after referee Chris Kavanagh was instructed to review an incident on the pitchside monitor.

The striker slid in to win the ball against Nathaniel Clyne and although his studs were showing, contact appeared minimal.

Dyche, 52, felt the challenge was made to look worse by a slow-motion replay — and compared the incident to a soft penalty appeal surrounding Beto, which was not awarded.

He said: "The slow motion shows a different picture. If you want to slow-mo everything, you have to slow-mo everything.

"There could have been a penalty on Beto.

"There's minor contact, in live time he doesn't give anything, then they slow it down and everything looks worse."

Everton fans expressed their disbelief at the decision after a replay of the tackle was shown on the big screen.

Visiting captain Seamus Coleman was similarly surprised to see his team-mate dismissed.

He said: "When you slow it down it's obviously going to look a bit worse but from where I was it's a great tackle.

"I've seen the replay after and I don't know who the finger should be pointed at.

"As soon as the ref goes over there, you know it's going to be a red card.

"It's been a big talking point and for me that's not a red card. It's another decision that goes against us, which probably won't get talked about much."

The match itself was a dull encounter aside from the red card with neither goalkeeper seriously threatened.

A replay will be required at Goodison Park to decide which side makes round four.
