Dumbarton edged their way into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup with a 3-2 win despite Alloa putting up a spirited fightback against League One’s bottom side.
The home side raced into a three-goal lead by the 39th minute, scoring their first when Mouhamed Diang collected Kalvin Orsi’s pass and crashed the ball home for 1-0.
James Hilton took a deft first touch before finishing to double the lead then Michael Ruth added a third to seemingly put Dumbarton out of sight.
Luke Donnelly scored what appeared to be a consolation shorty before half-time, before Stefan Scougall pulled back another 25 minutes from the end to set up a tense finale.
