Luke Littler has been included in the eight-strong field for the 2024 edition of darts' Premier League.

The 16-year-old sensation, nicknamed the Nuke, gripped the nation with his stunning run to the World Championship final on debut, where he went down 7-4 to Luke Humphries in a high-quality affair.

But Littler will now be mixing it with seven of the game's other elite stars on a weekly basis from February 1 across 17 of the biggest arenas the UK and Europe has to offer.

Littler and Humphries will be joined by Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Michael Smith, Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall in this year's tournament.

Dutch ace Van Gerwen has won the Premier League on a record seven occasions and is the reigning champion having defeated Welshman Price 11-5 in last year's final.

Meanwhile, Cross, Aspinall, Smith and Wright are all former runners-up and will be determined to get their hands on the trophy come play-offs night on May 23 at the O2 Arena, London.

Darts is looking to capitalise on a huge spike in interest following the exploits of Littler, with over 4.8million viewers tuning in to watch Wednesday's final on Sky Sports.

Many pundits had speculated whether or not the brutal schedule of the Premier League would be too taxing for a 16-year-old to deal with — particularly given Littler has only played one major tournament.

However, PDC chief Matt Porter confessed the teen's exploits became impossible to overlook for the committee choosing this year's line-up.

Porter said: "What Luke has done over the last few weeks has re-written the history books not just in darts but across sport.

"In the end, there was no decision to make."
