Both teams to score

Aston Villa hope to bounce back from successive defeats when the Champions League returns this week, with the table-topping Villans facing a Club Brugge side who have lost two of their three games in this competition.

Team news

Holding midfielder Raphael Onyedika is suspended for Brugge after being sent off against AC Milan, but other than that they have a clean bill of health, with Ferran Jutgla set to lead the line in a 4-1-4-1 formation.

Villa are without Matty Cash and Ross Barkley through injury, while Sunday’s consolation-scorer Morgan Rogers is a doubt after coming off with a minor ankle problem.

The youngster should still be fit to start, though, while Jhon Duran is hoping to get the nod ahead of Ollie Watkins up front.

The stats

Nicky Hayen's Club Brugge have been in fine scoring form of late

Brugge have scored 11 goals in their last four home games.

Villa have scored in all seven of their away matches in all competitions this season.

The Villans have conceded eight goals across their last four away fixtures.

Villa have won all three Champions League games this season to sit top of the standings.

Publicidad

Brugge have conceded seven goals in their last four home assignments.

Prediction

Villa were hammered at Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday but they should be able to bounce back in a potentially high-scoring affair in Bruges on Wednesday.

Their Belgian hosts have lost to Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan in this season’s Champions League, but they did score at the San Siro last month and have found the net in nine successive games in all competitions.

This gives them a chance as they go up against a Villa defence that have conceded eight times in their last four away matches, although Unai Emery’s side have scored in all seven competitive away days this term.

Defensive issues aside, the visitors have been phenomenal at times this season, with an historic win over Bayern Munich being one of three wins in three Champions League games.

This leaves Villa top of the new league phase of the competition and they are justified favourites to win in Belgium, but a clean sheet may be beyond them against a side that have netted 16 times in eight home matches this season.
