French success for Broome

Broome continued Aiden O'Brien's outstanding weekend after winning the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud in France.

It is the five-year-old's fourth win in his last six starts as his impressive form shows no signs of slowing down.

Saddled by Colin Keane, he led from the off and was able to put in a gutsy performance to hold off the challenge of Ebaiyra and Gold Trip.

O'Brien won Saturday's Coral-Eclipse with St Mark's Basilica and now has the prestigious French Group One race to add to his tally.

Baron Samedi - trained by O'Brien's son Joseph - challenged well initially but faded away to finish fifth, while In Swoop, who won the Grand Prix de Chantilly last month, disappointed after only coming fourth.

Kiely enjoying life with Rohaan

Owner Chris Kiely says he is "savouring the moment" with Rohaan as he readies himself for a run in the July Cup.

The David Evans trained three-year-old will be supplemented for the July Cup on Monday following an outstanding performance at Royal Ascot.

In a 21-strong field, he won the Wokingham Stakes to put himself on the map as one of the brightest sprinters around. Now primed for big things, it could have all been so different.

Initially, he was set for a run in the Commonwealth Cup at the royal meeting but couldn't because he was a gelding.

It has turned out to be a happy accident and Kiely is delighted with the progress.

"Just to be part of it was surreal and Dave (Evans) said to me 'savour the moment'," said Kiely.

"To have a winner there I can honestly say it will be a day I shall never forget. I have probably watched the replay 300 times. The memento you get given I can pass down to future generations. It was an incredible experience."

Hannon hoping for strong Snow Lantern performance

Snow Lantern will be going for Newmarket glory

Trainer Richard Hannon says he wants to see some "closure" as Snow Lantern prepares to run the Tattersall Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday.

The three-year-old has had a good 2021, winning a maiden at Newbury before finishing second in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot behind Alcohol Free, in her first Group One race.

Hannon came close to success in the race eight years ago when Sky Lantern - the mother of Snow Lantern - lost the race by a neck to Elusive Kate following a stewards' inquiry.

Now, Hannon is targeting first place for the Frankel filly.

He said: "We were disappointed on the day with Sky Lantern. I thought we should have been given the race but we weren't, but we then beat Elusive Kate later in the season in the Sun Chariot Stakes.

"Snow Lantern hasn't won a 1000 Guineas like her mum, but she is going there hopefully to win where her mother didn't but should have, and it would be nice if she did just that.

"She is as fresh as a daisy. It would be nice if she could win the race as her mother deserved it. She is in good nick and is good enough to win a race like this."

Quickthorn set for York

Trainer Hughie Morrison is eyeing a run in the John Smith's Silver Cup at York on Saturday for the Royal Ascot-winning Quickthorn.

He crossed the line first to win the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap in what was just his sixth start.

Now, the four-year-old is preparing to head to York for the Group Three contest and Morrison believes he is a potential star in the making.

"As long as we don't have any issues I think he's a proper horse," he said. "If you watch him go up the gallops like I do most mornings, he has the most wonderful stride on him.

"You could imagine him hopping over Becher's Brook and going round Badminton or Burghley - he's one of those types.

"We'd like to run him on better ground so he might go to York for the Group Three over a mile and six furlongs."
