LiveScore Racing Preview: Royal Ascot day two, June 16, 2021
It's day two of Royal Ascot and it's another fascinating afternoon of action.
Not only do we have the Prince of Wales's Stakes to look forward to, there are a couple of two-year-old races where new stars in the sport may emerge.
LiveScore Five To Follow at Royal Ascot on Wednesday
2.30pm - Queen Mary Stakes (5f)
Wesley Ward has unleashed some superstars in this race in recent years including Acapulco and Lady Aurelia.
He also prevailed in 2020 with Campanelle.
The American trainer saddles TWILIGHT GLEAMING here and on the basis of her performance at Belmont Park last time out, she looks to have an exciting future.
There is a large field for the US-trained filly to overcome but she should be the one setting the pace and she may not be passed in the 5f contest.
LiveScore Selection: Twilight Gleaming
3.05pm - Queen's Vase (1m6f)
Aidan O'Brien has won the Queen's Vase seven times.
Victory this year would see him match the record in the race which is held by Henry Cecil.
WORDSWORTH has shown a lot of promise on the track in his three appearances to date and he represents Ballydoyle's best chance.
The son of Galileo has shaped like this 1m6f trip will suit him.
He was denied by a neck last time out at Navan in a Listed race.
There is a good chance he will step up on that performance with victory in this Group Two contest.
LiveScore Selection: Wordsworth
3.40pm - Duke Of Cambridge Stakes (1m)
LADY BOWTHORPE was second behind Palace Pier in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on her last appearance.
That form has now been franked with the leading miler's victory in the Queen Anne Stakes on day one of this meeting.
There could be a strong pace in this 1m contest and that will really favour William Jarvis' runner.
She can add to her account to pick up her second success of the season.
LiveScore Selection: Lady Bowthorpe
4.20pm - Prince Of Wales's Stakes (1m2f)
It's a strong renewal of the Group One Prince Of Wales's Stakes, the feature race on day two of Royal Ascot.
All eyes will be on LOVE who we have not seen since she won the Yorkshire Oaks last August.
Aidan O'Brien's filly was the stand-out three-year-old last season.
She not only proved too fast for her rivals in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, a second Classic followed at Epsom in the Oaks.
It says a lot that Ryan Moore has favoured this filly over her stablemate Armory.
LiveScore Selection: Love
5.35pm - Windsor Castle Stakes (5f)
Frankie Dettori and Wesley Ward have had a lot of success together over the years at Royal Ascot and they could team up for more glory here with RUTHIN.
She has only had one racecourse appearance but she could not have been any more impressive at Keeneland over the extended 5f trip on turf.
The American filly will be getting weight from the colts in this race.
The vibes are strong about her so don't be surprised to see a big performance from Ward's runner.
LiveScore Selection: Ruthin
