- Recommended bet: West Ham and both teams to score

Last season’s Championship standouts Burnley’s return to the top-flight has not gone to plan thus far and they find themselves propping up the Premier League table after 12 games.

They welcome Europa Conference League champions West Ham to Turf Moor on Saturday at 3pm for what could turn into an exciting match, albeit with a familiar feeling for the hosts at the final whistle.

The Hammers are ninth in the Premier League and, having won three of their last four games, will be confident of getting a result over the struggling Clarets.

Team news

Burnley’s only absentee looks set to be Lyle Foster, who is taking time away from football to receive treatment for his mental health. Hjalmar Ekdal may be fit enough to make a first appearance since August.

West Ham will be sweating on the fitness of forwards Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, who picked up knocks while away with Jamaica and England respectively.

Both could be deemed fit enough to play, with Antonio the more likely to make the squad, but David Moyes may be unwilling to risk two of his most important players against the Premier League’s basement boys.

The stats

Burnley have lost all six of their Premier League home matches this season, while West Ham have won seven times in a row against promoted sides.

Burnley have failed to win any of their last four meetings with West Ham and the last two meetings between these clubs have finished as draws.

Publicidad

Both teams have scored in eight of West Ham’s nine away matches this term and both sides have found the net in three of Burnley’s last five matches at Turf Moor.

It has been a tough start to the season for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany

Prediction

There is the feeling that things will eventually improve for Vincent Kompany and Burnley, but this match against European-football-chasing West Ham may come slightly too soon for any progression to rear its head just yet.

The Hammers are unbeaten in their most recent four meetings with their hosts and have won their last seven against promoted sides, suggesting they will be too strong for the Clarets who have managed just four points from an available 36 this term.

West Ham should take three points back to London against a side who are yet to earn a point at home this season, but they may leave Lancashire without a clean sheet.

The Hammers have kept just one away clean sheet in their nine road games this season, with that sole shut out coming at League One Lincoln in the League Cup.

Burnley have already managed to net in home defeats against highflying Aston Villa and Spurs as well as Premier League giants Chelsea suggesting they may breach West Ham’s leaky defence.

Moyes’ side will be too strong for their hosts, but Kompany’s men can give their fans something to cheer about, even in defeat.
