Burnley have the chance to move up from their position of fourth when they host Plymouth on Tuesday, on a night in which the three teams ahead of them in the standings, will also be in action.

Plymouth will be looking to translate their impressive home form into away points, having only claimed one on the road this season.

Team news

Burnley had seven injured players on the sidelines for their 0-0 away draw at Oxford over the weekend.

Connor Roberts, Hannes Delcroix, Hjalmar Ekdal, Jordan Beyer, Aaron Ramsey, Manuel Benson and Nathan Redmond are the players missing for Clarets' boss Scott Parker.

Goalkeeper Conor Hazard should be the only absentee for Plymouth, with the Northern Irish international not due back until December after undergoing ankle surgery.

The stats

Wayne Rooney's Plymouth have picked up just one point from their three away games in the Championship this season

Burnley are unbeaten at home in the Championship this season, beating Cardiff and Portsmouth, either side of a draw with Blackburn.

Publicidad

Plymouth have yet to enjoy an away win across all competitions and have only scored once in three defeats and a draw.

Fourth-placed Burnley have the best goal difference in the Championship with +9, having scored 13 times and conceded only four.

Plymouth have won their last two home games, leaving them 15th in the table. They defeated second-placed Sunderland and then Luton, who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Prediction

Burnley have been consistent on their return to the Championship this season, despite a huge overhaul at the club.

Some 14 players left Turf Moor over the summer, with 18 new squad members arriving, while the Clarets also changed manager, with Parker replacing Vincent Kompany, who had overseen such an impressive title win when Burnley were last in the Championship, back in 2022-23.

Parker’s team have only lost once in seven games this season, away at Sunderland. They have won four and drawn twice, with the latest stalemate coming at the weekend when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Oxford, in a game in which they only had one shot on target from 14 attempts.

Plymouth are showing signs of progress under Rooney, winning 3-1 at Home Park against Luton on Friday. It was their second successive home victory, after coming out on top 3-2 in a thriller against high-flying Sunderland.

Yet the Pilgrims have yet to deliver on the road, drawing blanks in three of their four away games this season. With Burnley only conceding four times in the Championship this season, the hosts should enjoy a narrow victory.
