Manchester United to win

Manchester United should be feeling a bit better about themselves after Wednesday’s 3-2 victory at home to Newcastle and they will be aiming for another morale-boosting win when taking on Brighton at the Amex.

The Red Devils need a victory to boost their chances of climbing above seventh-placed Newcastle, but they will be equally keen to send a message to FA Cup final opponents Manchester City.

Brighton’s main motivation will be to sign off with a victory in front of their home fans.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side have struggled in the second half of the season and anything less than a win could result in them sliding out of the top 10.

Team news

Roberto De Zerbi's Brighton have struggled for results

Brighton have doubts over Joel Veltman and Lewis Dunk, while they will be without Solly March, Pervis Estupinan, Jack Hinshelwood, Evan Ferguson, James Milner, Jan Paul van Hecke and Kaoru Mitoma.

Publicidad

Lisandro Martinez, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford featured in Wednesday’s 3-2 success at home to Newcastle and are likely to be given more minutes as they sharpen up in preparation for next weekend’s FA Cup final.

Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Mason Mount miss out and Anthony Martial is a doubt. Raphael Varane will need to be assessed.

The stats

Brighton have won only one of their last nine games.

The Seagulls have not scored more than once in any of their last 15 fixtures, while they have lost three of their last four home fixtures.

United have won on three of their last five trips to Brighton.

Publicidad

Four of the Red Devils’ last five away games have generated at least four goals.

Prediction

United are hoping to build some confidence before next weekend’s FA Cup final and they can wrap up their Premier League campaign with a victory over Brighton at the Amex.

An extensive injury list has blighted the Red Devils during the run-in, but there was plenty of good news on Wednesday with returning trio Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford playing their part in the 3-2 success at home to Newcastle.

Fernandes had an excellent game and his creative qualities could open up the Seagulls, who have suffered a series of setbacks in recent weeks.

De Zerbi’s injury-ravaged side have taken only six points from their last nine games and they could be set for further disappointment this weekend.
