Wolves to record a top-10 finish

Wolves will be hoping to build on last season's 14th-place finish and push themselves into the top half of the Premier League table in the 2024-25 campaign.

Manager Gary O'Neil was thrust into the Wolves dugout in August last year, replacing Julen Lopetegui who had left on the eve of the season, and he managed to steady what was a rocky ship.

Having had the summer to work with his squad and bring in reinforcements, there is hope Wolves can make progress under the former Bournemouth boss and push up the standings.

Last season

Wolves managed to finish 14th in the table, a massive 20 points clear of the relegation zone and just three points behind Crystal Palace in 10th.

The Black Country outfit won 13, drew seven and lost 18 of their 38 league games, while they also reached the quarter-final stage of the FA Cup.

Manager

O'Neil was unlucky to have been sacked by Bournemouth in June 2023, but he did not have to wait long to be handed another opportunity, with Wolves appointing him in August that year.

The 41-year-old brought a more attacking style to Wolves and while they scored just 50 goals in the league last term, they created several chances and were only missing a top-class striker to finish them off.

Transfers

Jorgen Strand Larsen scored 13 LaLiga goals for Celta Vigo last season and he has now made the switch to Wolves, who have signed him on an initial loan with a £25million obligation to buy.

Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle have been brought in on permanent deals to strengthen the midfield, while right-back Pedro Lima joins from Sport Recife.

Max Kilman's exit to West Ham has left a gap to fill at centre-back and the club will likely be looking to bring in a replacement before the summer window closes.

Strengths and weaknesses

Wolves have plenty of creative players in their ranks – Matheus Nunes, Pedro Neto, Pablo Sarabia and Daniel Podence to name a few – while Hee Chan Hwang is a willing outlet up top.

The club were missing a top-class striker, but they may have found their man in the shape of Norway international Larsen, who impressed in the Spanish top-flight last season.

Kilman's departure has significantly weakened the defence and if they fail to bring in a replacement, this is an area that could cause them issues this season.

Best outright bet

O'Neil's managerial reputation has been building over the last couple of seasons and he has instilled great belief in this Wolves squad that they can start setting loftier ambitions.

There is plenty of experience in this squad to go along with the young up-coming players and the fact they were only three points off 10th last season shows they are improving.

Shrewd incomings this summer should help in the final third and if they can replace Kilman before the window shuts, they should have a solid chance of a top-10 finish.
