Southampton secured a vital 1-0 win against Watford thanks to Scotland international Che Adams' first-half strike.
Adams finished an Adam Armstrong pass impressively after 20 minutes before the Saints managed to hold on for a clean sheet and a win.
It was a goal that deserved to win any game but it was not an entirely comfortable victory for the visitors.
Kyle Walker-Peters cleared off the line from an Ismaila Sarr attempt and Alex McCarthy saved from Ashley Fletcher late on.
The win sees Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side leapfrog today’s opponents in the table, and they have now taken seven points from their last three games.
Watford, meanwhile, are still finding their feet under new manager Claudio Ranieri.
Hasenhuttl believed his side could have made it much more comfortable for themselves.
Speaking after the game, he said: "We had a very good performance in the first half but we had only one criticism — that we didn’t score more often.
"The game could have been finished at half-time by three or four to zero.
"We’ve had games where we could have scored more often, but the good thing is when you have more clean sheets, it’s easier because then sometimes one goal is enough."
Did you know?
Southampton enjoyed their first win in 10 away Premier League games (D2 L7) since beating Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane in March.
Adams' winning goal came from their only shot on target all game.
He has registered six goal involvements in his last 10 starts for the Saints in all competitions (four goals, two assists), after managing just two in the 16 before that.
Watford have now lost back-to-back Premier League games at Vicarage Road for the first time since November 2019 (also losing to Liverpool in their last home league game, 5-0).
They are without a clean sheet in 10 home Premier League matches, conceding 21 goals in that run (2.1 per game).
The Hornets are one of just three teams yet to keep a single clean sheet this season in league football in England’s top-four tiers (also Newcastle and Lincoln).
