Manchester United are considering a shock move to bring Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Old Trafford.

The Telegraph say United have been offered the chance to open talks with the Danish international, who Spurs are keen to offload before Friday's transfer deadline.

Hojbjerg, 28, has made two substitute appearances for the North Londoners this term, with new boss Ange Postecoglou preferring a midfield duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr.

He had been strongly linked with Atletico Madrid but the £30million move collapsed over a failure to agree personal terms.

Having also turned down an offer from the Saudi Pro League, he could now be set to remain in England with the Red Devils.

Boss Erik ten Hag is keen to sign another central midfielder after a shaky start to the Premier League campaign and knows Hojbjerg from their time at Bayern Munich in 2013.

Fiorentina's Moroccan enforcer Sofyan Amrabat is still believed to be United's top target but a concrete offer is yet to be made for the 27-year-old.

Amrabat's representatives are now believed to be considering their options after growing frustrated at the lack of progress.
