Tottenham were under pressure on their return from the November international break but they resume their Europa League schedule in a much happier frame of mind after Saturday’s stunning 4-0 triumph away to Manchester City.

It was a good time for the Lilywhites to take on their Citizens but they could still take lots of credit for such a dominant victory over the Premier League champions, who went into the game unbeaten in their previous 52 home fixtures.

The next challenge for Spurs is to atone for their 3-2 loss away to Galatasaray on Europa League matchday four.

However, they are seventh in the League Phase, four points superior to 20th-placed Roma, who have been struggling on domestic and European fronts.

Roma have sacked two managers and hope for a change of fortunes under veteran tactician Claudio Ranieri, who took charge for Sunday’s 1-0 loss away to Napoli.

Team news

Tottenham will be forced into a change between the sticks after Guglielmo Vicario underwent an ankle operation. Vicario joins Richarlison, Micky van de Ven and Wilson Odobert on the injured list. Mikey Moore (illness) and Cristian Romero (foot) are doubts but Rodrigo Bentancur should feature despite being towards the start of a seven-game domestic ban.

Paulo Dybala is pushing for a start after coming off the bench at the weekend but Alexis Saelemaekers (ankle) and Eldor Shomurodov (groin) are expected to miss out.

The stats

- Tottenham have won each of their last seven Europa League home games without conceding

- Spurs have won 12 of their last 14 Europa League home games

- Tottenham have gone 17 matches without registering any draws

- Roma have not won any of their last 13 away fixtures

- The Wolves have lost two of their last four matches by a 3-2 scoreline

Prediction

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou likes to ring the changes for Europa League nights and one of the players eager to impress him against Roma will be Brennan Johnson.

The Welshman has started 10 of 12 Premier League games but was dropped to the bench for Saturday’s 4-0 success at Manchester City and responded in the right manner by coming off the bench to score the last of the goals.

The 23-year-old has netted eight goals across all competitions and has the tools to expose out-of-sorts Roma, who have slipped to 12th in Serie A after three successive domestic defeats.

Roma are only three points outside the relegation zone and their main focus is likely to be on Monday’s clash at home to second-placed Atalanta.
