Tottenham will be hoping to build from their midweek Carabao Cup win over Manchester City when they host Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs knocked out the Citizens to book their place in the quarter-finals and Ange Postecoglou will be eager to see his side push on from that impressive victory.

As for Villa, they are still in the title conversation at the beginning of November and they will likely put up a stern challenge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Team news

Spurs are without defender Micky van de Ven until after the next international break after he picked up a hamstring issue in midweek, but Cristian Romero has overcome the niggle that forced him off in that game.

Djed Spence and Wilson Odobert remain sidelined for the hosts, but captain Heung-Min Son has trained and is expected to be available to make his first appearance since October's win over West Ham.

Villa have a clean bill of health heading into this contest and manager Unai Emery is expected to make changes to the side that lost at home to Crystal Palace in the cup on Wednesday.

Ollie Watkins is one of those players who should return, having been left out of the matchday squad for that cup defeat.

Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia were both given a start after injury against the Eagles as they close in on full fitness, but may be back on the bench in the capital, with the likes of Ezra Konsa and Morgan Rogers restored to the starting XI.

Unai Emery's Aston Villa have won five and drawn one away from home this season.

The stats

Tottenham have won six of their seven home assignments in all competitions this season, the only blemish being a narrow 1-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal back in September.

Spurs have scored 18 goals in the league, a tally bettered only by Man City (20) and Chelsea (19), while they have netted two times or more in five of their seven fixtures at home.

Captain Heung-Min Son has scored seven times in nine appearances against Villa.

Villa are unbeaten on the road in all competitions this season, winning five times and drawing once.

The Villans have won on their last two trips to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, recording 2-0 and 2-1 victories.

Prediction

With Tottenham a strong force at home and Villa unbeaten on their travels this season, it is tricky to predict which side will come out on top and, therefore, the better play is to delve into the anytime goalscorer market.

There are plenty of attacking options for both managers to choose from, but Spurs boss Postecoglou should be boosted by the return of his captain and talismanic forward Son, who has missed the last three games due to injury.

The South Korea international scored in his last game before sustaining the thigh problem, the 4-1 victory over West Ham and he can make an immediate impact on his return against a side he loves playing against.

Son has netted seven times in nine appearances against the Villans and he can add to that impressive tally on Sunday.
