Sunderland vs Norwich predictions: Rowe set to fire on Wearside
- Sunderland have conceded seven goals across their last three games
- Jonathan Rowe is Norwich's leading scorer with seven league goals
- Recommended bet: Jonathan Rowe to score anytime
Sunderland and Norwich both go in search of a much-needed Championship victory on Saturday when they meet at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have been checked in recent weeks and Tuesday's 1-0 loss at table-toppers Leicester was their third in a row, a result which saw them slip down to 10th place in the table.
Norwich went down 2-1 at home to Middlesbrough on the same evening, extending their winless streak to four matches and leaving them 14th in the standings.
Once again, the Championship is proving to be one of the most difficult leagues to predict and picking out a winner in this clash on Wearside with any real confidence is hard to do.
Team news
Sunderland are without Aji Alese, Timothee Pembele, Jay Matete and Corry Evans due to injury, while there are doubts over Adil Aouchiche and Bradley Dack due to groin issues.
Eliezer Mayenda did play in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Monday, but he is still working way back to full fitness and could feature for the Under-21s on Friday night.
Norwich remain without Josh Sargent, who is not expected back until the New Year, while goalkeeper Angus Gunn is set to be absent again with a muscular problem.
This game will also come too soon for Ashley Barnes, Marcelino Nunez, Jakob Sorensen and Grant Hanley.
The stats
Sunderland are on a three-game losing streak, a run in which they have conceded seven goals and only managed to find the back of the net once.
The Black Cats have won three of their seven home matches across all competitions this season, with their most recent fixture at the Stadium of Light ending in a 4-0 loss to Middlesbrough.
Norwich are without a win in four and they have only tasted success twice from their last 10 fixtures in all competitions.
The Canaries' tally of 24 goals scored in the Championship leaves them third in this department, only Leicester (27) and Ipswich (26) sit above them.
England U21 international Rowe has accounted for nearly a third of those 24 strikes, with his individual haul of seven leaving him joint second in the Golden Boot race.
Prediction
With Sunderland and Norwich both struggling for results, it may be better to stay away from picking a winner and instead look at City forward Rowe to continue his impressive form in front of goal.
The 20-year-old has been an ever-present in the first team this season and he has rewarded the faith of manager David Wagner, scoring seven goals to lead his club's scoring charts.
Rowe netted late on in the loss to Middlesbrough on Tuesday, his third goal in his last five appearances, and he looks ready to notch his eighth strike of the Championship season on Saturday.
