Steven Bergwijn has joined Ajax from Tottenham for a fee of £26.4million on a five-year contract.

Bergwijn, 24, hit the ground running in North London with a sweet strike against Manchester City on his debut in February 2020, and will be fondly remembered by Spurs fans for his record-breaking late double at Leicester last season.

The Dutchman mainly featured as a substitute last term, registering just three goals and a solitary assist in 25 league appearances, but found form for his national team, bagging five goals in his last seven games for Louis van Gaal's side.

The tricky winger will return to the Eredivisie where he mastered his craft with PSV between 2014 and 2020, and will now aim to help Ajax clinch their fourth consecutive league title.

Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder said: "It is indicative of Steven's ambition that he chose to make the step to Ajax.

"He is a player with many qualities. He has enormous drive and is also very goal-oriented. Of course, I am happy that we were able to sign him, he adds new quality to our team."
