Andros Townsend and Abdoulaye Doucoure scored either side of half-time as Everton extended Norwich's losing streak by winning 2-0 at Goodison Park.

The victory puts Everton level with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, who all trail Liverpool by one point.

Norwich remain bottom of the table and extend their run of Premier League losses to 16 games.

With six losses and a -14 goal difference, this is the Canaries' worst-ever start at this stage of a season in the competition’s history.

Despite those eye-opening statistics, Daniel Farke was pleased with his side's performance.

He said: “We are of course disappointed with the result. I have also many compliments for the performance of my lads.

"The key moments in the game were against us and that  as tough to take because we are definitely not the worst side today but that is reality, that we lost the game."

Everton have won four consecutive Premier League games at Goodison Park for the first time since September 2019 under Marco Silva, when they won six matches in a row.

Rafa Benitez, who was in an understandably jovial mood, was surprised by this fact.

He said: “I did not know that until today. I am really pleased with that and hopefully we can carry on against Manchester United."

VAR awarded Everton a penalty shortly before the hour mark after Ozan Kabak was adjudged to have fouled Allan in the box. Townsend converted the ensuing spot-kick for his fourth goal in all competitions this season.

Doucoure capped off the win after a sublime move from Demarai Gray for his first assist and fourth goal involvement of the season.

Did you know?

Norwich have lost each of their first six Premier League games this season with a goal difference of -14; the worst ever start at this stage of a season in the competition’s history.

Norwich manager Farke has lost 75% of his 44 Premier League games (33/44), the highest loss percentage of any manager to take charge of 20-plus games in the competition.

Doucoure scored his second Premier League goal of the season (6th app), as many as he had scored in 2020-21 in 29 games in the competition for the Toffees.

Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul has been on the losing side in 100 of his 199 Premier League appearances, becoming only the fourth player to suffer 100 defeats in fewer than 200 games in the competition after forward Steven Fletcher (185), defender Paul Robinson (192) and forward Matthew Jarvis (193).

Townsend has been directly involved in seven goals in eight appearances in all competitions this season (four goals, three assists), more than any other Everton player.
