Southern Brave

Southern Brave won the inaugural edition of The Hundred and reached the eliminator last year, where they were beaten by Manchester Originals.

They will once again be looking to go deep in the competition and start their campaign against London Spirit, who won only two of their eight games in the tournament last term.

Team news

For Southern Brave, Jofra Archer’s fitness will be the biggest question mark. Akeal Hosein is likely to miss out through his Major League Cricket duties while Daniel Hughes will feature in place of Finn Allen.

James Neesham and Matthew Taylor will replace Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope for London Spirit in this match with the latter pair playing for England against the West Indies.

Andre Russell and Shirmon Hetmyer may be available, with the former finishing his Major League Cricket stint on Monday.

The stats

Southern Brave have been on the receiving end of two of the four centuries hit in the history of the competition.

Only three players between these two sides had a higher individual score than 62 last year.

Southampton has not seen many high-scoring affairs in The Hundred, with six of the last nine first-innings totals at this venue going under 147.5.

Prediction

Southern Brave have been one of the most solid teams in three seasons of this competition and they are worth siding with to get off to the perfect start against London Spirit.

In Tymal Mills, Rehan Ahmed, Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer they have top level bowling options and they have added Laurie Evans to their batting unit over the break. He will line up alongside James Vince, Leus De Plooy and Kieron Pollard.

London Spirit will be without Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley through England duties and while Michael Pepper has been impressive in the T20 Blast, he has tended to blow hot and cold.

With question marks about the availability of London Spirit key man Andre Russell, the Brave look a fair price to carry on their solid form and win this.
