Seven forgotten Premier League players desperate for January switch
The new year is upon us and for a host of Premier League players, the hope will be that 2024 can be a fresh start.
The futures of Ivan Toney, Kalvin Phillips and Conor Gallagher are grabbing most of the headlines but there are a number of forgotten stars also desperate for a move.
We pick out the top talents seeking pastures new during the January transfer window.
Eric Dier
Ange Postecoglou has made it pretty clear that Eric Dier does not fit into his plans after selecting full-backs Emerson Royal and Ben Davies ahead of him at centre-back during Tottenham's injury crisis.
Dier — who was part of England's World Cup squad a little over 12 months ago — therefore appears nailed on to end his 10-year stay in North London and could be a handy purchase for another Premier League side.
Trevoh Chalobah
Big-spending Chelsea need to sell players this January to avoid breaking financial fair play regulations and Trevoh Chalobah could be one of the first who is shifted on.
The English defender has not played a single minute under Mauricio Pochettino and has been linked with a reunion with former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.
Danny Ings
A year on from swapping Aston Villa for West Ham, Danny Ings will be hoping for another fresh start elsewhere after a disappointing spell in East London.
The 31-year-old has played just 133 minutes of Premier League action under David Moyes this term and is rumoured to be eyeing a return to Southampton.
Andre Gomes
Few would have realised Andre Gomes still played for Everton prior to his smattering of appearances during the festive period.
The Portuguese international even scored in a defeat at Tottenham but still appears destined to move on — whether that be this month or when his contract expires in June.
Matt Ritchie
Matt Ritchie spoke to LiveScore last month about his delight at returning to Newcastle's starting XI amid their recent spate of injuries but his long-term future appears to be away from St James' Park.
The 34-year-old has plenty of experience to offer and could prove an invaluable addition to a Championship team chasing promotion.
Cedric Soares
Cedric Soares is another who has not played a single minute of Premier League action this term and will surely want to leave Arsenal during the winter window.
The former Southampton right-back's contract is up in the summer but he may well be kept around by manager Mikel Arteta following Oleksandr Zinchenko's calf injury.
Calum Chambers
Calum Chambers has made just three Europa Conference League appearances for Aston Villa this season and Unai Emery is unlikely to stand in the defender's way if he wants to depart.
The former Arsenal defender has Ezri Konsa, Diego Carlos, Pau Torres and Clement Lenglet ahead of him in the pecking order and could revitalise his career with a move to the Championship.
