Scotland crashed out of Euro 2024 at the end of the group stage after taking just one point from three games but they will be looking to bounce back as they prepare to feature in League A of the Nations League for the first time.

Steve Clarke's side were promoted after an impressive Nations League campaign in 2022 which finished with them at the top of Group B1, two points ahead of Ukraine and six clear of Ireland.

Poland stayed in the top tier after finishing third in Group A4, behind Netherlands and Belgium and above Wales.

But they struggled at Euro 2024 and were eliminated from the tournament after losses to the Netherlands (1-2) and Austria (1-3).

Team news

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor retired from international football after Euro 2024.

Nathan Patterson and Aaron Hickey (both thigh) are sidelined and unattached trio Liam Cooper, Ryan Jack and Stuart Armstrong have been overlooked.

Vancouver Whitecaps attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld is hoping to earn his first senior cap after being called up at the age of 28.

Poland are without Wojciech Szczesny and Kamil Grosicki, who have retired from international football. Arkadiusz Milik (knee) is injured.

Robert Lewandowski remains with the group and will hope to add to his 83-goal international tally.

The stats

Four of Scotland's last five competitive fixtures have featured goals for both teams.

The Scots have conceded the first goal in five of their last six competitive matches.

Scotland could do with a boost after their poor showing at Euro 2024 and they can give their fans some cheer by defeating Nations League Group A1 rivals Poland at Hampden Park.

Pressure has been building on Scotland boss Clarke but it is worth remembering how far he has taken the national team.

After a period of more than 20 years without any major tournament appearances, the Scots were present at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.

Now they get the chance to compete with some strong opposition in League A of the Nations League but they should not be too fearful of Poland, who look like a team in decline.

The Poles were eliminated after just two matches at Euro 2024 and can no longer depend on goalkeeper Szczesny, who has called time on his international career.

They look like a team heading for a transitional period and may struggle to pick up any points in Glasgow.
