Haji Mnoga scored his first league goal to help Salford to only their second away win of the League Two campaign with a 2-0 victory at Accrington.

Mnoga struck at the start of the second half before Cole Stockton made the game safe to keep the Ammies challenging for a promotion place while Stanley remain rooted in a relegation battle.

Neither side had a real chance until the 38th minute when Stanley striker Tyler Walton came within inched of putting the hosts ahead. He got the ball in the box but saw his effort hit the inside of the far post and bounce across the line and into the grateful arms of Salford keeper Matty Young.

Just after that, Luke Garbutt’s free-kick for Salford tested Billy Crellin in the Accrington goal but, while City bossed possession, chances were at a premium for both sides.

It took just three minutes of the second half for Salford to break the deadlock, when Ossama Ashley’s cross on the left found Mnoga unmarked in the area and he had the easy task to fire home the opener for his first Salford goal.

The Ammies made it safe in the 85th minute when top scorer Stockton headed home a Garbutt free-kick.
