Kieran McKenna's Ipswich can demonstrate their scoring strength once again at Rotherham

- Both teams have scored in each of Rotherham's last six home fixtures
- Four of Ipswich's last five fixtures have featured three of more goals
- Recommended bet: Ipswich and over 2.5 goals

Ipswich are coping impressively with the step up from League One to the Championship and they have the chance to go top of the table when taking on second-bottom Rotherham at the New York Stadium.

The Tractor Boys signed off for the international break with a 4-2 success at home to Preston to open up an eight-point cushion to the third-placed Lilywhites.

They are on course for automatic promotion and would hope to strengthen their position at the expense of Rotherham, who are four points inside the relegation zone.

Rotherham are having a tough season but they were pleased to secure a surprise 1-1 draw away to Southampton last time out.

Team news

Rotherham are short of options at the heart of their defence with centre-backs Sean Morrison, Cameron Humphreys and Tyler Blackett on the sidelines.

Midfielder Jamie Lindsay (Achilles) has not featured this season.

Ipswich defender Janoi Doncacien (hamstring) featured twice for St. Lucia during the international break and is pushing for a place in the squad, although he faces stiff competition because the Tractor Boys have been on such a good run.

Midfielder Lee Evans was a first-team regular earlier this season but he has undergone knee surgery and faces a long period of recovery.

The stats

Matt Taylor's Rotherham have won just one of their first 11 Championship games and face another relegation battle

Rotherham have not kept a clean sheet in 13 league and cup games this season.

The Millers have gone six games without a victory, but they have scored in each of their last nine home matches.

Ipswich are the Championship's top scorers with 25 goals and they have found the net in each of their 14 league and cup fixtures this season.

The Tractor Boys have dropped just two points on their Championship travels and are unbeaten on their last 14 road trips.

Kieran McKenna's free-scoring side have scored three goals or more in four of their last five fixtures.

Prediction

Ipswich have been having a great time in their first Championship season since 2018-19 and their quest for back-to-back promotions can continue with a high-scoring victory over Rotherham in south Yorkshire.

Kieran McKenna's side have racked up 28 points from a possible 33 and they approached the international break in high spirits after convincing home wins over Hull (3-0) and Preston (4-2).

With less than a quarter of the season completed, Ipswich will be well aware that there is a long way to go.

However, they will be keen to ride the crest of the wave for as long as possible and are entitled to fancy their chances against the injury-hit Millers, who look at serious risk of relegation.

Rotherham stopped the rot with a 1-1 draw against Southampton but their path to survival is likely to depend on whether or not they can improve their home form.

Matt Taylor's side have mustered just five points at the New York Stadium and are unlikely to add to the tally this week.
