Problems Mount for Lamps as season ends for James and Mason
Frank Lampard has confirmed Chelsea star Reece James is out for the rest of the season and admits Mason Mount is also unlikely to feature again.
Right-back James, 23, picked up a hamstring injury against Real Madrid last week as the Blues lost 2-0 at Stamford Bridge — and 4-0 on aggregate — to exit the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.
Despite finishing that match, the England star will play no part in his club's final seven Premier League games.
Team-mate Mount, 24, has been struggling with a longer-term pelvic issue and any more action this season is similarly doubtful.
Ahead of tomorrow's home clash with Brentford, Lampard said: "Reece will be unavailable for the rest of the season.
"The same with Mason. He might make the last match but that's unlikely. That's obviously disappointing for us.
"Kai Havertz is still struggling with his knee but should be available for the end of the week.
"Reece had a hamstring injury in the midweek game. He got through it but then had a scan and he's out.
"Mason has been carrying a pelvic injury for a while, it predates myself. He has been trying but will have minor surgery, then a four-week recovery."
Blues legend Lampard, 44, stepped in as caretaker manager earlier this month to fill the void left by Graham Potter's sacking.
And while he refuses to comment on speculation about his successor, he remains confident of remaining in charge until the end of the season.
Lampard said: "I wouldn't expect anything in football but we have come in to a club with big difficulties with not a lot of time.
"The team and club have been struggling for a while. We are here to help. Things won't change in a short time."
