Real complete swoop for Monaco star Tchouameni
Real Madrid have completed the signing of Monaco starlet Aurelien Tchouameni for a fee in excess of £85million.
French international Tchouameni, 22, becomes Los Blancos' second summer recruit after former Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger penned a four-year deal last week.
Several clubs were reportedly in the race to sign the midfielder, including Champions League runners-up Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.
But he opted for the European champions and has signed an initial six-year deal at the Bernabeu.
In a statement, Real confirmed: "Tchouameni will be unveiled on Tuesday, June 14, at Real Madrid City following his medical."
The deal is reported to be worth £68.3million plus a further £17million in add-ons.
Tchouameni racked up 50 appearances for Monaco in all competitions last term and is already regarded as one of world football’s brightest talents.
Alongside countryman Eduardo Camavinga, he will hope to establish himself as a leading light in the LaLiga giants’ engine room for years to come.
Real’s central midfield trio of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro have been exceptional performers, winning 14 Champions League titles between them.
But with superstars now all aged over 30, it is no surprise to see Los Blancos snap up a marquee signing for the future in this position.
Tchouameni’s position and style of play compare most similarly to Casemiro, meaning he will have big boots to fill as the Brazilian is integral in his role shielding Real's defence.
