Howe blasts VAR decision

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has criticised the VAR decision to award Paris Saint-Germain a late penalty on Tuesday night, which robbed his team of a famous Champions League victory. 

Speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester United, the Magpies boss gave his thoughts on the interpretation of the rules during the 1-1 draw in Paris. 

Howe said: "The handball law is vague. It's not clear. That's probably been the biggest problem. I'd struggle to tell what is and isn't handball. 

"Looking at the decision again, the referee made the right decision. 

"He's been told by VAR that they think it is a penalty. How is he going to the monitor to review it? Naturally, does he have to give the penalty because he's been sent to the monitor? 

"I'm old fashioned. The on-pitch decision should be given more respect. We'll ask for clarity but the moment has gone."

Klopp has trust in Kelleher

Jurgen Klopp is confident reserve goalkeeper Caoimhmin Kelleher can handle the pressure of filling in for Alisson when Liverpool take on Fulham. 

The Reds' manager said: "We see him every day in training, he is an exceptional talent. 

"Maybe we don't mention the name often enough, but John Achterberg [Liverpool's goalkeeping coach] said to me from day one when I was in, that this will be our homegrown boy who will make it. 

"We had discussions in the summer obviously about [moving on], but as long as we don't have a solution we cannot loan players. 

"He is homegrown and the first responsibility is to do the best for Liverpool, then we have to see how we can sort it. 

"Now obviously for him it is a situation he did not want to have, but obviously because you want opportunities, you want to play, now he will get a few games, definitely. I trust him." 

Havertz on the up

Mikel Arteta has spoken about Kai Havertz's improved form ahead of Arsenal's match with Wolves on Saturday. 

The German has had a tough time at the Gunners since joining from Chelsea in the summer but scored in the wins against Brentford and Lens over the last seven days. 

Arteta said: "First of all, we support him like with any other player and then we give him the tools and the time to excel in his qualities and I think that's what he's doing. 

"Everything has started to come together. A lot of things he was doing right he continues to do and now in front of goal he's been very efficient. 

"He's been very positive and so influential in a good way to his teammates and the team. But obviously, he's confident and he's really looking forward. 

"When you feel loved, when you feel respected and when you feel admired, things are much easier. Your energy is better, your body language is better. I think that’s the way he's felt in the last few days." 

Moyes grateful for Soucek

West Ham chief David Moyes has expressed his gratitude at Tomas Soucek's run of goalscoring form with the Czech midfielder scoring in five consecutive games for club and country. 

He said: "We've needed someone to step up and he's the one doing it at the moment. He's back on it at the moment and it's good for us." 

Moyes went on to speak about how West Ham have turned a corner when it comes to finding the net. 

The veteran coach said: "We're sharing the goals around, which I'm pleased about. We struggled to score last season and in the main, we've had a squad that's been fully fit. 

"Jarrod [Bowen] has got goals, which he hadn't done before the World Cup last season. Tomas is getting goals and Michail [Antonio] also got goals at the start of the season too.”

Ten Hag claims United played 'very good' against Gala

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag praised his side's performance in their Champions League clash with Galatasaray. 

The Red Devils were 3-1 up on the road only to eventually draw 3-3. 

Ten Hag said: "On Wednesday we played very good, also in Copenhagen [Manchester United lost 4-3]. 

"Even in Bayern Munich [lost 4-3] we played very good, but we have to do some things better. Eliminate individual errors, transition. 

"But we can sort this out and I would be more concerned if we didn't play well." 

United must beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford to make into the Champions League's last 16. They travel to Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend. 

Poch speaks out after tough week

Mauricio Pochettino has spoken out over how Chelsea have dealt with their humbling 4-1 loss at Newcastle last weekend. 

The Argentine said: "We need to clarify things, realise what happened. I think it was a tough week for everyone. 

"I am very happy because [the players] reacted very well. I was tougher with them inside [the changing room] and outside. 

"We have to blame ourselves also. Maybe our approach was wrong and we take the responsibility. 

"We took the week to realise things that we need to improve, to be more consistent, more mature. 

"I am very very happy so far. It was really, really tough in training and meetings, but sometimes these types of situations help us to improve." 

Bentancur out until 2024

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur will be unavailable until next year. 

The Uruguayan midfielder made his first start for Spurs against Aston Villa last weekend after a lengthy absence with a knee injury, only to damage his ankle ligaments. 

Postecoglou said: "There's no exact timeframe. It'll be well into next year. 

"[Recovery] starts with the player. He's such a positive guy, he has a positive outlook. 

"He knows he's been through a tough time and now he has to go through a shorter tough time." 

Tottenham were 1-0 up against Aston Villa when Bentancur was substituted but eventually lost 2-1, which was their third successive defeat.

Pep: Postecoglou makes football a better place

Pep Guardiola has talked up Ange Postecoglou as Manchester City prepare to host the Aussie's depleted Tottenham side on Sunday. 

The City boss said: "I am impressed at many things they do. The chances they create, aggression in all departments.

"He came here with nothing and within a few months already you can recognise Spurs as his team. 

"Every team that plays with desire and determination comes from the manager. He has done this in the past in Japan and in Glasgow with Celtic. 

"He makes football a better place, a person like Ange. I enjoy watching them play and the approach they have. The impact he has made has been quick and really good."
