Haaland in contention

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed Erling Haaland is in contention to face Liverpool tomorrow.

The striker picked up a knock while on international duty against the Faroe Islands and missed Norway's 3-3 draw with Scotland last Sunday.

Guardiola said: "He trained yesterday with some niggles.

"Today we are in the last training, hopefully he can play a part.

"We have a few problems like many clubs. We will see in our training session today. We will see.

"At 6pm I will know for sure who is available."

Dyche slams 'disproportionate' deduction

Everton manager Sean Dyche has criticised the Premier League's decision to deduct 10 points from the Toffees.

He said: "I think I follow the club's words.

"I don't know every inch of the club's past, or the commission. But I certainly believe in what the club put forward.

"It's disproportionate, it feels like it's unjust. And there are plenty of voices out there that feel the same.

"That said, what's done is done for now — appeal pending — so we have to get on with it.

"That's just the simple facts."

Nkunku needs patience

Mauricio Pochettino has called for patience from Chelsea fans as summer signing Christopher Nkunku prepares for a return to action.

The former RB Leipzig forward picked up an injury in pre-season and is now back in training, though he is not in contention to face Newcastle on Saturday.

Pochettino said: "He is going to find massive competition as his team-mates are ahead of him over the last four months.

"He needs to find his best form and level to compete with those players. In Chelsea the expectation is always maximum.

"But we all need to understand with the injury he is going to need time and we need to be patient with him.

"He needs not only to recover but learn the league and culture. So it will take time to perform in his space."

Spurs sticking with their style

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has stated that he will stick with his methods, despite the North Londoners having lost their last two games, amid a number of players being injured or suspended.

He said: "Obviously the last two results haven't been great. I guess my point is, we're at the beginning of trying to build something.

"At the early stages you've got to stay focused on that and the kind of football we want to play and what we want to be.

"We can't let our short-term results, good or bad, influence how we're going.

"People will always question and scrutinise my approach, or our approach.

"I understand that. It's not about me trying to convince people, it's more about making sure internally, the players and staff, are staying on course."

Ten Hag issues warning

Erik ten Hag has warned his Manchester United players they will be meeting an angry Everton side on Sunday.

The match at Goodison Park is the Merseysiders' first outing since having 10 points deducted by the Premier League.

Ten Hag said: "It's always about us. I can see the opposition and I can see they are mad but then finally it's about us.

"If they are mad and that's their fuel, we have to match those standards.

"When we match the standards we have a very good chance to win the game."

The trip to Everton is the first of three challenging away games for United over the next week, with visits to Galatasaray in the Champions League and Newcastle in the Premier League to come.

Klopp backs Mac Allister

Jurgen Klopp has backed Alexis Mac Allister's ability to anchor Liverpool's midfield against Manchester City on Saturday.

He said: "I understand that from the outside world it's always about a player in this position, in that position but in the end it's about how the team is set up.

"Has football developed in the last year in directions we could not have imagined? Yes. Does that mean that a player like Alexis can play a six? Definitely, depending on how the team defends.

"If you can do that properly then you have an incredible player in the central position who can find positions and is a forward-thinking player.

"I like him there and we as a team we can benefit from it, if we make sure we have a real compact formation and that's what we need, especially tomorrow."

Ramsdale returns for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has confirmed Aaron Ramsdale will return to Arsenal's starting line-up for Saturday's match at Brentford.

David Raya has taken the England goalkeeper's place but is ineligible to play against his parent club having joined on loan for the season.

After confirming that Ramsdale will play, Arteta was quizzed about the 25-year-old's development.

He said: "My job is to try and help people in the very best possible way.

"Every day to make him better and give them the best possible chance to fulfil the potential in their career and get to the highest possible position.

"There is no expectation with any player."

Trippier available for Magpies

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says Kieran Tripper will be available for Saturday's game with Chelsea.

The right-back had to withdraw from international duty with England last week for personal reasons.

Howe said: "Kieran [Trippier] is fine. He has trained with us since his return from England. We will check on Sean [Longstaff] before tomorrow.

"Fabian [Schar] was more precautionary rather than any injury, we saw him yesterday, he seemed good. Miggy [Miguel Almiron] has worked really well since his hamstring.

"Our home form has been very strong. We have had some good results against some top sides. You look back at our last league game here against Arsenal, it was a very strong performance, full of discipline and quality.

"Another performance and atmosphere like that would be more than welcome. There is a determination to put the Bournemouth result to bed."
