Peterborough pushed hard by Notts County before advancing in FA Cup
Peterborough came from behind to beat Notts County 4-3 in an entertaining FA Cup second-round tie.
The League Two side had looked on course to claim the scalp of the third-tier club, and reach the third round for the first time since 2018, when they led 2-1 with 17 minutes left.
It was a frantic opening 16 minutes at London Road.
Ricky-Jade Jones broke the deadlock in the 10th minute as he fired in from a tight angle at the near post but County quickly turned the game on its head.
Cedwyn Scott levelled three minutes after the opener as he poked home from George Abbott’s knockdown.
Within the blink of an eye, the visitors were ahead when skipper Matty Platt nodded home Nick Tsaroulla’s cross at the near post.
Alex Bass made a good save to keep the Magpies ahead on the stroke of the break when Jones’ cross came off Platt in his own area.
Bass produced a better stop to keep out Jones just after the restart before Ryan de Havilland rattled the bar for the hosts.
Jones was on hand to level with 17 minutes to go when he slid in to convert Archie Collins’ low ball.
Joel Randall put Posh ahead four minutes later, stabbing home the rebound after his initial effort was saved by Bass’ legs.
The tie was sealed when Abraham Odoh added a fourth in the 87th minute but Abbott gave the hosts a scare with a stunning late lob but they couldn’t force extra-time.
