Southampton’s Tino Livramento has been one of the Premier League’s breakout stars.

After impressing in the defeat at Everton, the right-back was named man of the match as Saints drew with Manchester United.

But where has the 18-year-old come from? We take a closer look at Livramento.

Where has he come from

Livramento is one of the many products of Chelsea’s exceptional youth system.

Saints snapped him up for £5million in the summer after he was named the Blues’ academy player of the season in May.

He had been at Chelsea since the Under-9s, with his development up to this stage being overseen by the coaches at Cobham.

A marauding, modern-day full-back, Livramento has represented England at Under-16s, 17s and 18s already.

He even caught the eye of Blues boss Thomas Tuchel at the end of last campaign.

Tuchel said: “I love the academy boys. We have [Tino] Anjorin and Livramento regularly joining training. The academy has outstanding quality.

"Every club who has young guys constantly coming in making it, it creates a bond in the club and supporters.”

The Blues inserted a £25m buy-back clause into the deal with Saints.

Saints win the race

Southampton were far from the only team interested in snapping up Livramento.

With Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta and even Callum Hudson-Odoi ahead of him in the pecking order at right-wing-back for Tuchel, the Croydon-born youngster felt it was time to move on.

Aston Villa, AC Milan and RB Leipzig were all tipped with a move, yet Ralph Hasenhuttl’s reputation for working with youngsters clearly played a part.

Livramento said: “I've been discussing with my dad about what we thought was best for my future. 

"We felt like this was the right time for it to happen and for me to move on.

“To have interest from a few top clubs, to choose Southampton was sort of a no-brainer. 

“They are a solid Premier League club and the manager was quite a big factor as to why I wanted to come here and why I wanted to play for Southampton.”

Early Saints bow

Despite making the move, few expected the teenager to start Saints’ opening game of the season at Goodison Park.

After all, he had never played a single minute of senior football and Kyle Walker-Peters has impressed there.

But Hasenhuttl went with the youngster. 

He was reportedly impressed by the full-back's never-say-die attitude and desire to help the side.

Now the Austrian boss is looking to keep a lid on expectations surrounding Livramento.

He said: “At first I must say I am happy for him and for us, for us as a club we get one of the best talented youngsters in England.

“We know he has a lot of potential, he has made now two games, don’t hang him too high.

“I know how quick people are starting to lift him but he has a lot of things to learn.

“But he has everything, he has the body, the speed, the quality on the ball. This is a good combination and it’s on us to work with him.”

Style of play

Livramento simply loves to bomb up and down the right flank whenever he is given the opportunity.

In 26 games during his final year in Chelsea’s academy, he notched 10 assists and scored three goals.

The teenager’s delivery helps him stand out with those who watched him at youth level marvelling at the consistency of his balls into the box.

As referenced already, he has the sort of attitude a coach dreams of and will put his body on the line at the back.

Though only 5ft 7in tall, he is a feisty character and will not shirk any defensive duties. 

Sky is the limit

There is a reason Chelsea were so reluctant to let go of Livramento — they had high hopes for what he might achieve.

And it has already been clear to see why in just two Premier League appearances. 

Even his Saints team-mates have been impressed. Theo Walcott, who burst on to the scene as a 16-year-old on the South Coast sang his praises over his debut.

Walcott said: “I feel like he’s got a really good career ahead of himself. We need to make sure we just let him do it in the background, I suppose.

“He physically looks like an athlete, which you would hope anyway. But he is a very grounded young man I feel and is very well spoken, as well.

"He keeps his head down. He works hard and it’s only been a few days, but you can tell already he’s definitely a very good young character. 

"The club need to look after him. But the players, as well, we are around him and always there for him."
