LiveScore Racing Preview: Newmarket, October 20, 2021
Racing returns to Flat racing's HQ on Wednesday afternoon, with an eight-race card coming from Newmarket.
There could be some smart novices in action in one of their final appearances of the season.
Here are five horses to follow from the card, which begins at 1pm.
1pm - Discover Newmarket Fillies' Restricted Novice Stakes (7f)
Night Of Thunder filly SOCIAL CONTACT showed some encouraging signs on her debut at Newcastle (7f) last month when she finished just over two lengths behind the winner, with Roger Varian's runner keeping on well in the closing stages of that contest.
The two-year-old filly is likely to step up from that opening appearance, so expect a big performance now she knows what it is all about.
LiveScore selection: Social Contact
2.40pm - Home Of Racing Maiden Stakes (1m2f)
It has been an excellent season for Charlie Appleby who could be set for another big year in 2022 as he has some promising two-year-olds in his stable.
One of those may be AL NAFIRI who is making just his second start in this maiden, the son of Dubawi is also a full brother to Ghaiyyath.
He was beaten by a smart colt from David Simcock's yard earlier this month but he should be able to get off the mark at the second time of asking.
LiveScore selection: Al Nafir
3.15pm - British EBF Future Stayers Nursery Handicap (1m2f)
Since stepping up to 1m, EDUCATOR has produced two very good performances.
He was denied victory by just a neck at Goodwood two runs back, while last time out, he was on the right side of a photo finish at Haydock.
This new distance of 1m2f should suit William Haggas' colt as he is bred to stay over much further with the cheekpieces helping him on his latest outing and they remain on here.
LiveScore selection: Educator
3.50pm - Devils Dyke Fillies' Handicap (1m)
The most unexposed runner in this class two handicap contest for fillies is BASHKIROVA.
She is unbeaten in two appearances, with wins coming at Nottingham (1m½f) and Newcastle (1m, AW).
In the latter of those victories, she was pushed really hard in the closing stages but she battled well.
William Haggas' filly is a daughter of Pivotal and there should be much more to come from her.
She is the highest-rated runner in this field with an official rating of 92 but that could be a lenient mark to begin with.
LiveScore selection: Bashkirova
4.25pm - British EBF Future Stayers Novice Stakes (1m)
PERSEUS WAY made a winning start to his career on his debut at Leicester (1m).
The ground was heavy in that first outing but it did not trouble the son of Sea The Stars, while also looking a little green when he came out of starting stalls but he settled well in the middle stages of the race.
There are three Godolphin runners in this race and William Buick has opted to ride the Leicester winner, he is the one they all have to beat.
LiveScore selection: Perseus Way
