- Newcastle have conceded in five of their seven home league games

Newcastle to win and both teams to score

Newcastle have a chance to end their longest winless run of the season when they host Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Magpies have gone four games without a victory but they did manage to hold league leaders Liverpool to a 3-3 draw in their last home game.

Leicester fought back to claim a 2-2 draw at home against Brighton in their last outing to make it four points from two games for new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy but they have found points hard to come by on their travels this season.

Team news

Newcastle remain without Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth. Kieran Trippier made a return from the bench in the defeat at Brentford and could come back into the starting XI.

Ricardo Pereira and Harry Winks are among Leicester’s list of absentees but Facundo Buonanotte is back in contention after being ineligible to face parent club Brighton last time out.

Abdul Fatawu and Jakub Stolarczyk are both sidelined, Wilfred Ndidi and Odsonner Edouard are both doubtful and Boubakary Soumare is suspended.

The stats

Leicester have scored 10 goals in seven away games, shipping 18 themselves.

Newcastle have just two defeats in seven home league games (W3. D2).

The Magpies have gone five games without a clean sheet.

Eddie Howe’s side have won three of the last four meetings between these sides, with one draw.

Prediction

Newcastle have gone four games without a win but the visit of struggling Leicester looks like an opportunity to reignite their European bid.

The Magpies slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Brentford last time out but they competed well in that game against a team with the best home record in the division and a similar level of performance may be enough against poor travellers Leicester.

The Foxes have just one win in seven attempts on the road in the league, losing on four occasions.

Leicester have experienced an upturn in form since Van Nistelrooy took charge with four points from two games, although they needed two late goals to snatch a point against Brighton last weekend

They should be competitive at St James’ Park but getting any kind of result in the North East still looks a big ask.

Newcastle have gone five games without a clean sheet and goals have not necessarily been the issue for Leicester on their travels, they have scored 10 times on the road in the top flight, so backing a home win with goals at both ends stands out.
