Newcastle United are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions under the charge of Eddie Howe

- Newcastle have won six of their seven home matches this season
- There have been 22 goals scored at St James' Park this term
- Recommended bet: Newcastle to win & over 2.5 goals

Newcastle's Champions League homecoming could not have gone any better as they produced an inspired performance to beat a star-studded Paris Saint-Germain side 4-1 on Matchday two.

That leaves the Toon top of Group E on four points after two group games, having opened their campaign with a solid 0-0 draw at AC Milan.

Eddie Howe's Magpies are playing with plenty of confidence and will seek to further their last-16 ambitions with victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

The Germans are not quite the force they once were but Howe will not take the Bundesliga side lightly, even if they have picked up just one point from their first two group games and have yet to score in Europe this season.

Team news

Swedish striker Alexander Isak missed the recent set of international fixtures, but did come on for the final 20 minutes of Newcastle's resounding 4-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

He is expected to lead the line for the Magpies, but Sven Botman, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock are sidelined.

Dortmund trio Mateu Morey, Youssoufa Moukoko and Julian Duranville will all sit out the trip to Tyneside. Sebastien Haller is vying with in-form Niclas Fullkrug to lead the line for the visitors.

The stats

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last eight matches, winning six times, and they have been especially good at St James' Park.

The Toon have won six of their seven home games this season, with only Liverpool managing to leave Tyneside with anything to show for their efforts – the Reds came from behind to win 2-1 in the Premier League in August.

The hosts have found goals easy to come by of late, netting 20 times since a goalless draw against AC Milan on matchday one of the Champions League, and over 3,5 goals has landed in their last three in all competitions.

Dortmund are no strangers to entertaining affairs, with their eight Bundesliga outings this term generating 25 goals.

BVB are unbeaten in the league this season, but have taken just one point from their opening two Champions League games, losing 2-0 at PSG and drawing 0-0 at home to Milan.

Prediction

After losing three of their first four matches of the campaign, Newcastle have turned a corner in no uncertain terms and are on an eight-game unbeaten run as they prepare to welcome Borussia Dortmund to St James' Park.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have been beaten on Tyneside in that time, and Dortmund could become the Toon's latest high-profile victim.

The two clubs appear to be heading in opposite directions at present. Newcastle are intent on establishing themselves as a member of Europe's elite while Dortmund are not the same force who were runners-up in 2012-13.

The duo's respective performances against PSG go some way to highlighting that stance.

Whereas Newcastle had St James' rocking with a thoroughly deserved 4-1 demolition of the French champions, Dortmund did not show a huge amount of intent as they were beaten 2-0 in Paris.

Newcastle have been deadly in front of goal in recent weeks and backing a home win and over 2.5 goals is the prefered play.
