Transfer Talk: Where should Manchester United strengthen in January?
Manchester United are likely to be busy in the January transfer window.
Despite spending big money on Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, this season has been a struggle for the Red Devils.
Erik ten Hag's side were hammered 3-0 in their last two outings and have lacked any cohesion throughout the campaign.
Ahead of today's clash with Fulham, we look at how they might address some of their issues in the transfer market.
Centre-back crisis
An obvious area in need of reinforcement is at the centre of defence.
Harry Maguire started alongside Jonny Evans, 35, in the recent defeat to Manchester City and Erling Haaland found himself unmarked far too frequently.
Though Raphael Varane has returned to fitness, Lisandro Martinez is sidelined by injury and there are doubts over Victor Lindelof's ability — a new centre-back may well be a priority for Ten Hag.
Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo has been linked with a potential move to Old Trafford after an impressive start to the Ligue 1 campaign.
The French side have conceded just four goals in 10 games and Todibo has been a big part of that rearguard resilience.
At 23, he could be a long-term solution — and, crucially, he has the ball-playing attributes to play out from the back, ranking fourth in Ligue 1 for completed passes (709) with an accuracy of 89.86% heading into this weekend.
Right-back reinforcement
A new right-back might also be on the cards amid reports that contract talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka have stalled.
Diogo Dalot has played in the position this term with Wan-Bissaka fighting back from injury — but Ten Hag may be looking for an upgrade.
Jeremie Frimpong could be on United's radar after an excellent start to the season with Bayer Leverkusen.
Before this weekend, he ranked joint-second in the Bundesliga for assists (five) and has caught the eye in Xabi Alonso's exciting team.
The 22-year-old would be another forward-thinking signing for a club in need of a plan.
Attacking addition
Despite splashing the cash on Hojlund in the summer, United may also be looking for a new striker imminently.
Still only 20, Hojlund has certainly shown promise — but he is yet to score in seven Premier League appearances.
With Marcus Rashford unusually subdued so far this term and Anthony Martial on the periphery, the Red Devils' attacking options look slim.
Brighton striker Evan Ferguson has been linked with a move to Old Trafford after his impressive hat-trick against Newcastle in September.
The 19-year-old is an exciting prospect, though Ten Hag's outfit may be looking for someone more proven to lead the line.
But when it comes to securing an experienced frontman, ex-United striker Louis Saha has suggested his former team may have missed the boat in the summer.
He said: "I was really pushing for the signing of Harry Kane because he's more experienced.
"He has the capacity to hold his ground and make sure that he provides the balance that the team needs. You need that kind of charisma and class.
"You're missing that experienced player who is looking to score doubles or hat-tricks. There's no element of this in United at the moment."
A talismanic striker to lead the line might be the key for a United side lacking self-belief.
Finding such a player is where the challenge lies for Ten Hag.
