The seven-race card at Wetherby on Monday kickstarts our racing focus for the week ahead

Wetherby is one of four meetings taking place in the UK and Ireland in a busy start to the week on Monday.

With a dry weekend at the venue, the racecourse cancelled their precautionary inspection on Sunday, although the ground is still expected to be testing with the official going described as "heavy".

And we have picked five horses for you to follow.

1.45pm - Racing TV Live On Sky 426 Mares' Maiden Hurdle (2m5½f)

MOURNE LASS took a big step forward on her second start over hurdles to finish second of eight runners at Carlisle (2m3½f) last month. She bumped into a smart mare from Donald McCain's yard.

The six-year-old was staying on strongly at the finish in that race at Carlisle and is likely to appreciate the extra distance in this maiden hurdle.

If she builds upon her latest display, she is likely to prevail in the opening race on this card.

LiveScore selection: Mourne Lass

2.20pm - Join Racing TV Now Novices' Handicap Chase (1m7f)

Former points winner BROOMFIELDS KAN is still a maiden under Rules, but his latest performance at Ayr (2m4½f) suggests that will not be the case for much longer.

He was a close second at the Scottish course in a nine-runner field.

This horse has improved for the switch to fences. He is dropping down in trip now and he off a mark giving him a great chance of success.

LiveScore selection: Broomfields Kan

2.55pm - racingtv.com Maiden Hurdle (2m½f)

On paper, this looks a match-up between Cartonne and NETYWELL

The latter drops back to maiden company after a respectable performance in a novice hurdle at Carlisle (2m1f).

Lucinda Russell's runner was a close second at Ayr (2m) earlier this year in a maiden hurdle on soft ground.

He remains open to improvement, so he gets the nod to prevail for the first time in his career.

LiveScore selection: Netywell

Fontana Ellissi has only been put up 1lb despite recent good form
Fontana Ellissi has only been put up 1lb despite recent good form

FONTANA ELLISSI has been in excellent form recently. He scored at Ffos Las (2m) in early February and then came very close to another success on his follow up attempt at Taunton (2m½f) where he was second of six, less than a length behind the winner.

Samuel Drinkwater's gelding has gone up just 1lb in the weights so another big run can be expected from the six-year-old over this 2m trip.

LiveScore selection: Fontana Ellissi

4.05pm - Bet At Racingtv.com Handicap Chase (2m3½f)

This will be BUSTER VALENTINE's fifth run since moving to Mark Walford's yard back in November.

He has hit the frame on three occasions but is still looking for his first win for his new trainer.

The nine-year-old remains 6lb lower than his peak mark in the ratings.

The trip appeared to just be a stretch too far for him last time at Musselburgh (3m). This looks much more suitable, so it's a good opportunity for him to prevail, despite being off top weight.

LiveScore selection: Buster Valentine
