Thursday marks day one of this year's Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket

Newmarket's Cambridgeshire Meeting gets underway on Thursday afternoon — the first of three classy days of action at Flat HQ.

The day one highlight is the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes at 2.45pm and conditions are set to be good to soft-good in places'.

It is an eight-race card from 1pm until 5.05pm and we have picked out five horses for you to follow.

1pm - British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (1m)

Notwithstanding the presence of some potentially useful newcomers in Magisterial, Subastar and Symbol Of Light, this Newmarket opener may go the way of DAWN OF LIBERATION for Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore.

The Churchill colt was placed on debut at Newbury (7f, good) in July and improved on that last month when second in a valuable York maiden (7f, good to firm), from which the winner has come out and gone very close in Listed company since.

He was well clear of the remainder and sets a lofty standard on that evidence.

LiveScore selection: Dawn Of Liberation

2.10pm - British Stallion Studs Ebf Premier Fillies' Handicap (6f)

Gale Force Maya is not discounted despite carrying a 5lb penalty for her success at Pontefract last week but maybe LOVELY BREEZE is better placed coming here relatively fresh.

Hugo Palmer's Sepoy filly was a C&D winner in June (good to firm) and after finishing second to Gellhorn here next time she made it 2-3 scoring at Glorious Goodwood (soft) in late July.

She came up short in Listed company soon after but has enjoyed a short break since and could still be up to defying her current mark.

LiveScore selection: Lovely Breeze

2.45pm - Tattersalls Stakes (Group 3, 7f)

An impressive debut winner at Longchamp (6½f, soft) in June, TRIDENT twice improved since while tasting defeat in Group-race company.

Last month's Prix Morny second to Norfolk Stakes winner Perfect Power is a very strong piece of form and he will have no worries on the forecast ground.

Cresta made a winning start at Leicester last month, holding off subsequent Doncaster handicap winner Modern Games, but Martyn Meade's runner looks promising and should improve.

LiveScore selection: Trident

3.20pm - Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed, 2m)

EILEENDOVER briefly looked a threat in the recent Group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster and Pam Sly's daughter of Canford Cliffs now gets an ease in class over this slightly longer trip.

She finished her race off quite well on Town Moor a fortnight ago and retains the potential to win in this grade on the Flat.

Max Vega is a reliable performer in Group-race company and was an Ebor eye-catcher at York last month.

He does need to prove himself at this trip, but Ralph Beckett's 4YO is a key player if he lasts home.

LiveScore selection: Eileendover

5.05pm - Newmarket Challenge Whip Handicap (1m2f)

Andrew Balding's Bashful could take some beating in the Newmarket Challenge Whip Handicap

Babindi has her chance to go well on form, while Balearic could have a say if a first-time visor has a positive effect but the nod in the finale goes to BASHFUL for Andrew Balding.

The Manduro colt has been a beacon of consistency this season (figures read 222323) and takes a drop in class/trip here after running well behind Red October last month on the Polytrack at Lingfield.

That rival has a question to answer at this trip.
