There's plenty of action to take in at Newmarket

The July course at Newmarket is going to be used for the first time this year on Thursday afternoon.

It is the opening of three straight days from HQ and we have picked out five horses to follow across the meeting.

1.50pm - Black Type Accountancy British EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (6f)

With two starts on the track now, this looks a good chance for MAYBURY to get off the mark at the third time of asking.

He has produced two respectable performances so far, both of which have come in better events than this contest.

William Jarvis' runner finished third in the Woodcote at Epsom on his last start behind Oscula and Flaming Rib respectively.

A repeat of that outing, or if indeed he improves again, will see him prove difficult to beat in this 6f contest.

LiveScore Selection: Maybury

2.25pm - Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project Handicap (1m4f)

After victories at Yarmouth and Leicester respectively, GLENCORA comes into this race bidding for a hat-trick of wins and it's hard to look past her.

She has really enjoyed the better ground on her last two outings so the drying conditions over the last 24 hours will be in her favour.

The daughter of Gleneagles will need to defy a 5lb rise in the weights but it looks within her reach.

Expect to see her given a lot of cover in the early stages of the race before making her challenge inside the final couple of furlongs.

Ryan Moore has been booked for the ride and he can give her all the encouragement she needs at the business end of the contest.

LiveScore Selection: Glencora

3pm - Book Now For Ladies Night Handicap (7f)

Akkeringa dropped down to this 6f to record success at Doncaster earlier this month but he may find this test much tougher with his 6lb penalty.

Although it is only a small field,  number of unexposed horses in the race which may be capable of stepping up on what they have shown to date.

GREAT NEWS makes a lot of appeal, especially now he has been gelded, and he made a winning debut at Salisbury earlier this season.

The son of Shamardal followed it up with a disappointing appearance at Newmarket. This could be quite a lenient mark for him to begin handicapping with.

4.10pm - Join The Great Racing Welfare Cycle Handicap (7f)

A lot is going to be expected from Ametist, who has won three of his four starts to date.

His hat-trick was completed at Newmarket last time where he prevailed by just a nose over this distance.

He will probably need to improve here to keep his winning run going but that cannot be ruled out.

This race is a great opportunity for FOX CHAMPION to pick up his first success since May 2019. This five-year-old is a Group Two winner.

He struggles now at the highest level but is down to a mark allowing him to enter a handicap race like this.

This is just his third run since switching to Ralph Beckett's yard and it is a contest where he wouldn't need to be at his very best to win

LiveScore Selection: Fox Champion

4.45pm - Start Your RacingTV Free Month Now Handicap (1m)

ALABAMA BOY has taken a big step forward on his form from last season in his new campaign.

Ed Walker's colt is two from two on the track in 2021, with his latest victory coming on the Rowley Mile at this course over this distance.

The three-year-old looks to still be off a mark, allowing him to challenge. Ground conditions show be preferable for him and further improvement cannot be ruled out from the in-form horse.

LiveScore Selection: Alabama Boy
