LiveScore Racing Preview: Ascot, October 30, 2021
Jumps racing makes its return to Ascot on Saturday afternoon as the famous Berkshire layout begins a new season of National Hunt action.
The headline act is the Bateaux London Gold Cup at 3.20pm with Vinndication trying to win for the second time in three years for trainer Kim Bailey.
They race at Ascot from 1.35pm-5.05pm on ground set to be 'Good to soft' and we've picked out five to follow on the card.
LiveScore Five To Follow at Ascot on Saturday
1.35pm - Ascot Underwriting Chase (Novices' Limited Handicap, 2m3f)
This has the potential to be a really informative contest and plenty of the participants should be winning races over fences before long.
Kid Commando, Solo, Sam Barton and Whatsupwithyou are just some worth looking out for but Gary Moore's team are in fine fettle and son Jamie rides NASSALAM here.
He was a runaway victor in his first two hurdles starts on British soil last season and achieved a Grade 1 second at Chepstow in January. He's only a 4YO but there should be plenty more to come now sent chasing and he might start fast again.
LiveScore Selection: Nassalam
2.45pm - Byrne Group Handicap Chase (Listed, 2m1f)
One For Rosie is 2-2 over fences but facing a tougher test now, while last year's winner Amoola Gold is a stone higher in the ratings now.
Aintree winner Editeur Du Gite may again hold sway on runner-up Sully D'oc Aa but FRERO BANBOU - fourth on Merseyside - is equipped with a nice turnaround at the weights and could have more to come for Venetia Williams this season.
Charlie Deutsch's partner should be well suited by this stiffer test based on his Auteuil chasing win and he is a key player.
LiveScore Selection: Frero Banbou
3.20pm - Bateaux London Gold Cup Handicap Chase (3m)
Real Steel is on a dangerous mark but he's lost his way and his Chepstow comeback was disappointing, he's got to find rediscover his mojo.
Top-weight Vinndication won this in 2019 (not won since) and is the class act but it was something of a disappointment that he went back over hurdles after his fall in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury last year. He does though go especially well when fresh.
ONE MORE FLEURIE made lots of progress chasing in the spring, winning four of his last five starts and Ian Williams' charge might not be finished improving yet.
LiveScore Selection: One More Fleurie
3.55pm - Stella Artois Novices' Hurdle (1m7½f)
Hurdles newcomers Peking Rose, Kandoo Kid and Shallwehaveonemore are much-respected but fitness/experience points to SUPER SIX for Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies.
He disappointed in a Grade 2 Aintree bumper on final start in the spring - a race in which Peking Rose was an excellent second - but he dead-heated last month on his hurdles introduction at Perth and the one he came clear with has won decisively since.
LiveScore Selection: Super Six
5.05pm - Ascot Round Table Open NH Flat Race (1m7½f)
As with the opening race on the card, this bumper looks a useful one and it might prove worth following in the coming weeks.
Estacas, Rex Temple, Firestream and Holetown Hero all represent yards synonymous with doing well in this sphere, but wide-margin point-to-point winners CHIANTI CLASSICO and Takoda are the two that make most appeal.
The latter could run a big race under Tom Scudamore but connections parted with £105,000 for Kim Bailey's Shantou gelding after his Fairyhouse point win in April and he can put that run around a racecourse to good use now.
LiveScore Selection: Chianti Classico
