Liverpool to score over 1.5 first-half goals

Liverpool were in scintillating form in their thrashing of Spurs to get back to winning ways after two consecutive Premier League draws.

The honeymoon is officially over for Ruud Van Nistelrooy at Leicester, who have now lost their last two games under their new manager, and must now prepare to take on their biggest challenge of the season.

Team news

Arne Slot will be without the services of injured Liverpool defenders Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate.

Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen could return for Leicester after a groin injury.

However, Ricardo Pereira, Wilfred Ndidi and Abdul Fatawu will all be on the sidelines for the Foxes.

The stats

Former Man United caretaker boss Ruud van Nistelrooy has lost his last two matches as Leicester boss by an aggregate of 7-0

Liverpool’s last three Premier League games have seen a total of 19 goals scored, with the Reds finding the net on 11 occasions while conceding eight times.

Leicester have lost to Newcastle and Wolves in their last two matches, conceding seven and failing to score.

Liverpool scored two first-half goals in their Carabao Cup win over Southampton and three against Tottenham at the weekend.

Leicester were 3-0 down at the break in their home defeat to Wolves on Sunday.

Prediction

Liverpool will be concerned at how many goals they are conceding, but their scoring power has ensured that they remain top of the Premier League.

Slot’s side have been involved in goal-laden encounters over their last three league games, which has seen them drop four points from a potential of nine.

Considering that the Reds started the season with four clean sheets from their first six Premier League games, it is a troubling trend, but Leicester look like the sort of team that they could shut out.

Regardless of whether Liverpool do keep it tight or not, they seem certain to score enough goals to claim victory against a Foxes team that have conceded 22 goals in their eight away games since returning to the top flight.

That is more than any other side in the Premier League and with the hosts having scored five first-half goals in their last two matches, this one could be wrapped up quickly on Boxing Day.
