- Liverpool have won 10 of their last 12 home fixtures
- Four of Liverpool's last five home wins have been to nil
- Recommended bet:
Darwin Nunez to score the first goal

Liverpool must wait almost a month before attempting to overturn a 1-0 deficit in their Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham, but they have three competitions to focus on in the meantime, including the FA Cup which begins with a third round tie at home to League Two Accrington.

Being drawn away to the Premier League leaders is a dream come true for Stanley, who are guaranteed a lucrative payday at the mid-point of what has been a difficult season.

Accrington started the campaign slowly and are down in 19th place, four points above the relegation zone, despite kicking off 2025 with victories at home to Grimsby (3-2) and away to Colchester (2-0).

They face by far their toughest match of the season against Liverpool, who have lost just two games across all competitions.

Team news

Arne Slot made four changes for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final, first leg at Tottenham and will almost certainly utilise a few more of his fringe players.

He has a strong squad to select from although Dominik Szoboszlai and Jarell Quansah (both illness) are doubts and Joe Gomez (thigh) misses out.

Accrington could be missing a few of their senior players. Connor O'Brien and Dara Costelloe have been sidelined for three weeks and Sonny Aljofree and Liam Coyle are doubts after missing last Saturday's trip to Colchester.

The stats

Liverpool have won three of their last six home fixtures by a 2-0 scoreline.

The Reds have scored two or more goals in six of their last seven matches.

Four of Accrington's last six away games have featured at least three goals.

Accrington have registered back-to-back wins for the first time since November.

Stanley have conceded at least two goals in eight of their last 10 games.

Prediction

Darwin Nunez is one of the few Liverpool players to have generally struggled under Slot but he should be handed a rare start against Accrington and can show his quality by scoring the opening goal.

Slot is spoilt for choice in the attacking department with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Nunez competing for places in a three-pronged attack.

Nunez has struggled for match minutes but he is set to be Liverpool’s focal point against Stanley and should appreciate coming up against a lower level of opposition.

Accrington will arrive with a gameplan and are going to do their utmost to stay in the contest for as long as possible.

However, they have kept only one clean sheet in their last 10 games and may soon be exposed by Nunez, who will be eager to remind Liverpool fans of his ability.
