Pyledriver preparing for Hong Kong bid with run at Lingfield

Trainer William Muir says Pyledriver will race in the Churchill Stakes at Lingfield this weekend in preparation for a trip to Hong Kong.

The Coronation Cup winner has not raced since his Group One success at the beginning of June and has only raced twice this year.

His other outing was at Newmarket in May when he was beaten by Sir Ron Priestley in the Group Two Jockey Club Stakes.

The son of Harbour Watch was hoping to have a busy summer and entries in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York and the Arc in Paris were potentially mooted but neither came to fruition.

A trip to Germany was also on the cards for the four-year-old but it was decided he was best staying at home.

Muir now believes a run at Lingfield will be the ideal preparation before heading to the Far East to take part in the Hong Kong Vase.

Trips to Saudi Arabia and Dubai in the New Year are also likely for Muir's charge.

Muir said: "We decided after Martin [Dwyer, Pyledriver's usual jockey] rode him on Tuesday not to go to Germany.

"Martin asked what our target was — I told him the Hong Kong Vase, and he said that he'd run well in Germany but he'd come on for the run.

"The train we'd planned to take was cancelled, so we'd have to have gone via ferry and we thought we'd go to Lingfield on Saturday instead.

"While that is not his ideal trip (10 furlongs), we'll use it as a prep for Hong Kong.

"He's won a Group One. He's going to be a horse to campaign all around the world now. Had it been a week later, I might have gone to Germany, but I'm looking forward to Lingfield now."

Aidan O'Brien's Mogul is the favourite to win the Hong Kong Vase for a second year running with the race due to take place on Sunday, December 12.

Verry Elleegant is also in the running after his victory in the Melbourne Cup last week.
