Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists he is happy with his squad but would not rule out signings after a 1-1 draw with Athletic Club at Anfield.

The Reds suffered a blow when Andy Robertson limped off with an ankle injury and Klopp hinted that reinforcements could arrive before the transfer window closes.

The German said: "I’m very happy with the squad. That doesn’t mean we don’t look at the market.

"But as long as nothing happens, I’m more than happy with the squad I have, more than happy with the players I have.

"Our situation is like it is. We have a big squad and there might still be something happening before the end of the transfer window but I can’t say anything about that at the moment."

Liverpool are playing two games in two days at Anfield but sent out a strong line-up against their Basque opponents.

Klopp’s side played with intensity and were 1-0 up within 15 minutes when Diogo Jota blasted a left-footed shot past Julen Agirrezabala.

Though they went on to concede an equaliser, the main negative from the day was the sight of Robertson hobbling off the pitch with an ankle injury that could keep him out of the early part of the season.

Alex Berenguer equalised for the visitors, on hand at the far post to finish off an impressive move from the LaLiga side.

Teenager Harvey Elliott impressed throughout for Liverpool and was one of the best players on the pitch.

Several teams are interested in taking the attacking midfielder on loan but performances like this show why Klopp might want to keep him.

Praising the youngster, Klopp said: "We wanted to have him more involved and I think he made a big step in this pre-season.

"If Harvey stays fit, the football world can be really excited about that. I liked his performance today. I liked his performance and attitude during the pre-season. So good for us, good for him."

Another youngster, 18-year-old Owen Beck, replaced the injured Robertson but one of Kostas Tsimikas or James Milner should deputise for the Scot once the season starts.

The Reds host Osasuna at Anfield on Monday before their Premier League opener against Norwich on Saturday.
