John Deere Classic predictions: Hadwin can continue fine form
- A hot putter and a solid short game are the usual requirements at the John Deere Classic
- World number 19 Cameron Young is the highest-ranked in this week's field
- Adam Hadwin is 24 under since missing his last cut
- Recommended bets
- Adam Hadwin to win and each-way
- Taylor Moore to win and each-way
- Peter Malnati top-10 finish
The PGA Tour makes the relatively short hop from Michigan to Illinois for this week's John Deere Classic where JT Poston will defend the title he won at TPC Deere Run last year.
Cameron Young is the only top-20 player in the world on the start list but eight previous winners at the venue are due to tee off on Thursday, including Poston and 72-hole course-record holder Michael Kim.
Hadwin has the game to tackle TPC Deere Run
Adam Hadwin came within a whisker of claiming his second PGA Tour title after a change of mental approach prior to the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week.
The Canadian, who was memorably tackled to the ground by security on the 18th green at the Canadian Open last month as he tried to celebrate with the winner, took a couple of weeks off to recharge his batteries after that but came back with a bang.
The man from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, took the pressure off himself and put a smile on his face in Detroit and the resultant 24-under score earned him a spot in a three-way playoff with former USPGA champion Collin Morikawa and majors nearly man Rickie Fowler.
Fowler's red-hot putter saw him prevail to end a four-year winning drought, but there were certainly signs that Hadwin's six-year wait could soon be coming to an end too.
The Canadian is returning to a track where he performed well as a relative unknown early in his career, finishing 18th in 2015 and eighth in 2016.
If his putter remains as hot as it got in Detroit last week then Hadwin should be there or thereabouts come Sunday's shake-up.
A sharp short-game is also crucial for success at TPC Deere Run and Hadwin, who can be backed at 28/1 with LiveScore Bet, is usually very efficient on and around the greens.
Moore to come from Taylor
Finishing three shots behind the playoff group last week on 21-under, Taylor Moore showed his game is in the sort of shape that could pay dividends if conditions continue to be benign.
The 29-year-old Texan broke his PGA Tour maiden tag at the Valspar Championship in March and has since suffered some indifferent form and results.
But he has maintained a consistent ranking of 27th for strokes gained: putting and that facet of his game should come into sharp focus on the greens of TPC Deere Run.
Now 20th in the FedEx Cup standings, Moore has plenty to play for as the season winds up to the business end and can be backed at 33/1 with LiveScore Bet to grab his second Tour success.
Malnati heading in the right direction
Peter Malnati is also coming off a solid week's play at the Rocket Mortgage Classic when he entered the final round six strokes off the pace at 14 under following a 67 in Round 3.
The bucket hat-wearing 36-year-old always seems to enjoy himself on the course and there should be an opportunity for him to build on that ninth-place finish on a course with as many short par-fours as TPC Deere Run.
Malnati measures up well for strokes gained: approach and can be backed at 12/1 to crack the Top 10 again this week with LiveScore Bet.
