Jarrod Bowen expressed his joy at notching a first career hat-trick in West Ham's 4-2 home win over Brentford.

England forward Bowen, 27, was on target twice within the opening seven minutes at the London Stadium before Neal Maupay halved the deficit for the visitors.

The Hammers ace completed his treble after the hour mark and Emerson Palmieri delivered soon after to put the hosts into an unassailable lead.

Despite Yoane Wissa's late consolation, it was a night to remember for the Irons' No20.

Bowen told Sky Sports: "I've had a couple of times where I've had two goals and never got the hat-trick. It was on my mind.

"It's a really proud moment for me. You're always waiting for that third one and it never comes. I got the little glance on the header and it went in. I was so buzzing to get it."

David Moyes' side came into the contest without a win in eight matches and having never toppled the Bees in five Premier League meetings.

Tonight's victory moved the East Londoners up to eighth in the table and Bowen was pleased to secure a first success of 2024 and ease the pressure on his Glaswegian boss.

He added: "Since the start of the year, we haven't been at a level that we'd want to be at.

"Tonight, we made a good step but there's a lot of work to be done.

“We have some big games coming up and we're back in Europe."

For the visitors, they are only five points clear of 18th-placed Luton having played a game more.

Manager Thomas Frank was frustrated with his team's display having run Manchester City close in a 1-0 away defeat last time out.

The 50-year-old Dane said: "I'm irritated by the inconsistency of performances.

"We played a West Ham team who were better than us today and we didn't perform to our highest level.

"These players have a fantastic mentality and work ethic but we didn't have a high enough performance.

"The frustration is we performed badly over all. It seems after a very good performance against Manchester City, it's two steps back again. It's an inconsistent season so far."
